One thing I’ve learned is that staying connected is vital, which explains why being "always on the phone" is more than just a habit—it's a necessity. From coordinating farm activities to keeping in touch with family and suppliers, the phone is an essential tool. When your husband is a farmer, your life often revolves around the unpredictable schedule of farming. Early mornings, late evenings, and weekend work are part of the routine. Having constant access to a phone helps me manage these irregular hours, by staying updated on weather forecasts, market prices, and urgent farm needs. Moreover, the phone serves as a lifeline to the outside world. Farming can be isolating, so chatting with friends, family, or fellow farmers provides support and companionship. Social media and messaging apps also allow me to connect with other farmer’s wives, sharing tips and encouragement. Of course, balancing phone time with hands-on work is essential. I often rely on voice messages and quick calls to stay efficient without disrupting farm tasks. Over time, I've developed a system where the phone aids productivity rather than detracts from the demanding farm lifestyle. Ultimately, being "always on the phone" is about embracing technology to make the challenging life of a farmer’s wife more manageable and connected. It’s a modern approach to an age-old role, helping me support my husband and keep our farm running smoothly.
