... Read moreHey bookworms! Building on my original post about what I'm currently reading, I wanted to dive a little deeper into some series that have been on my mind lately, especially when I see so many of you looking for epic new fantasy worlds to get lost in. You know how much I love finding those gripping stories, whether it's a dark academia vibe like 'Babel' or a sprawling sci-fi saga like 'Red Rising'. Lately, I've seen a lot of buzz around 'The Poppy War Trilogy' by R.F. Kuang, and if you haven't picked it up yet, you absolutely need to consider adding this set to your TBR! This series is a masterclass in dark military fantasy, diving deep into themes of war, power, colonialism, and the devastating costs of ambition. It's not for the faint of heart, but if you appreciate stories that challenge you and make you think, this is it. The first book introduces us to Rin, a war orphan from a forgotten province who, against all odds, aces the imperial exam to get into the most elite military academy in the Empire. Her journey is incredibly intense – think rigorous training, powerful shamanic abilities, and navigating a brutal war that reshapes her, and the entire world, irrevocably. Kuang doesn't shy away from the grim realities of conflict, and the moral ambiguities faced by her characters are truly compelling. It's the kind of series where you'll find yourself wrestling with decisions right alongside the protagonist. What makes 'The Poppy War Trilogy set' so impactful is how seamlessly the story evolves across all three books. Each installment builds on the last, escalating the stakes and deepening the psychological toll on Rin. Reading them consecutively really allows you to immerse yourself in the world-building and character development. It’s an experience that many readers describe as unforgettable, even if it leaves you emotionally drained in the best possible way. If you enjoyed the complex political intrigue and the academic setting of a book like 'Babel', or if you're drawn to narratives with strong, albeit morally grey, female protagonists, then 'The Poppy War' might just be your next obsession. It's a series that sparks so much discussion because of its challenging themes and unforgettable characters. I'm curious, for those of you who have read it, what were your thoughts on Rin's journey and the world Kuang created? And if you haven't, does this sound like a set you'd be willing to pick up? Let me know in the comments!

The best YA Horror book to come out in recent year
This book had me on the EDGE of my seat!! Darcy Coates does a wonderful job of combining different aspects of literature, breaking it up into digestible pieces, while also weaving a wonderful web of a story. I won’t explain too much, and despite how thick it is I was done reading it in one sitting!
