this is why it’s important to buy your accident and travel insurance 🫡
STORYTIME:
my friends and i went snowboarding recently for the first time — as beginners, we fell SO MANY times. needless to say, snowboarding itself is considered as an extreme sport so it’s definitely dangerous to a certain extent.
my friend fell multiple times on her chest and she had pain in her chest for awhile. we suspected that it could be a hairline fracture in her sternum so we told her to do an x-ray.
luckily, she’s also in the insurance industry so she had travel insurance (including extreme sports coverage) and personal accident coverage. knowing that she’s covered, she went to Mount Elizabeth (Novena) and got her x-ray and ECG done which costed ~$500.
so this is when travel insurance / accident plans come in handy 😂
note: check if your travel insurance policy covers snowboarding / extreme sports, especially when you’re gg on a snowboarding trip. it’s usually not included in the basic coverage and has to be added on most of the time. nevertheless, you could also use your accident plan to cover such medical expenses

Read moreAs someone who's recently ventured into snowboarding as a beginner, I can honestly say that it's a thrilling yet risky sport that requires proper preparation—especially regarding insurance. From personal experience, falls and injuries happen frequently when you're starting out, and having the right coverage can make a massive difference.
For instance, during my first snowboarding trip, one of my friends experienced chest pain after multiple falls, which made us suspect a potential hairline fracture in her sternum. Because she had comprehensive travel insurance including coverage for extreme sports, she was able to promptly visit a clinic—specifically Mount Elizabeth Novena 24-Hour Urgent Care Centre—for an x-ray and ECG. The total costs were around $500, which her insurance helped cover, eliminating a huge financial stress.
This experience highlighted the importance of checking your travel insurance policy carefully before heading out on a snowboarding trip. Many standard travel insurance plans don't automatically cover injuries from extreme sports like snowboarding or skiing. You often need to add this coverage as an extra or rely on a personal accident policy to ensure you’re protected.
Beyond just coverage, it’s wise to familiarize yourself with nearby medical facilities at your destination where you can receive timely care. Swift medical attention can prevent complications from injuries and help speed up recovery.
Ultimately, securing the right insurance package is not just about financial protection—it also brings peace of mind, allowing you to enjoy your snowboarding adventure without the constant worry about the 'what ifs.' If you're considering snowboarding, take the time to research and purchase appropriate travel and accident insurance with extreme sports coverage, so you're well-prepared, no matter what happens on the slopes.
