Oh, my kids are gonna know what my childhood was

If you’re a 90s kid, then you know what the Skip It was.

2025/6/8 Edited to

... Read moreOh, the Skip It! Just seeing that word brings a flood of memories back for me. I remember saving up my allowance, scrutinizing the toy aisle, and finally getting my hands on one of those shiny, new boxes. The packaging itself was a promise of endless fun: 'NEW & PROVED DESIGN,' 'COUNTS UP TO 7 MILLION SKIPS!', and of course, 'LIGHTS & SOUNDS' with an 'ELECTRONIC COUNTER.' It was cutting-edge technology for a kid in the 90s! My Skip It was pink and black, and I practiced for hours in our driveway. The trick was getting that ankle hoop spinning just right, then jumping over the swinging ball without tripping. My personal best was never anywhere near '7 million skips,' but every time that little electronic counter clicked up, I felt like a champion. The lights flashing with each successful jump made it feel like a mini disco party around my ankle. It wasn't just a toy; it was a challenge, a fitness tracker before fitness trackers were even a thing, and a way to prove who had the best coordination on the block. Thinking about the Skip It always makes me smile, but it also opens the floodgates to so many other incredible 90s childhood memories. It wasn't just about one toy, but a whole era of simple, imaginative play. Do you remember trading Pogs during recess? Or hours spent trying to master the perfect trick with a Tamagotchi, panicking when it beeped in class? For me, weekends meant setting up elaborate forts in the living room with every blanket and pillow we owned, fueled by sugary cereals and Saturday morning cartoons. We didn't have smartphones or endless streaming services. Our entertainment often involved going outside, riding bikes until the streetlights came on, or gathering around a console for epic N64 battles with friends. There was a raw, unfiltered joy to those days. We invented games, collected stickers, debated which Spice Girl was our favorite, and spent hours perfecting our rollerblading skills. I often wonder how different my kids' childhoods will be compared to mine. While they have amazing tech and new ways to connect, I hope they get a taste of that pure, unadulterated fun that came with a simple toy like the Skip It, or the thrill of discovering a new Pogs slammer. What are some of your most cherished 90s childhood memories that you wish your own kids could experience?

This is quite a sensitive topic to talk about, but it must be talked about. From the ages of 0 to 6 I was sęxuālly abused by a family member of mine. This caused extreme trauma for me and made me hate myself to the point to where I didn’t even want to live. I know that what he did was wrong and tha

STOP letting your kids “date” in grade school

Do Not Have Kids If…
