Book Review: In the Likely Event

This book gave me the warm fuzzies by the end of it.

This was my first book by Rebecca Yarros too! I really like her writing and her style as an author; however I am not sure military romance is my kind of romance trope. I will have to read more of that trope to figure that out.

... Read moreI'm still riding high from finishing Rebecca Yarros's 'In the Likely Event' – it truly gave me all the warm fuzzies and then some! This was my first experience with her writing, and I can honestly say I'm completely hooked. While I wasn't sure if military romance was my go-to trope, this book might have just changed my mind. The way Yarros weaves a story is just captivating, drawing you right into the lives of her characters. At its heart, 'In the Likely Event' introduces us to Izzy Astor and Nate Phelan, two individuals whose paths cross in the most dramatic possible way: a plane crash. This isn't just any chance encounter; it's a pivotal moment that binds their fates together, years apart, across continents. The story masterfully alternates between their past and present, revealing how a shared traumatic experience can forge an unbreakable bond, even when life tries to pull them in different directions. You really feel the weight of their history and the undeniable pull they have towards each other. The 'military romance' aspect of the story is incredibly well-handled. Nate Phelan is a compelling character, dedicated to his service, which adds a layer of complexity and sacrifice to their relationship. It’s not just about grand gestures, but about understanding, patience, and unwavering support through deployments and the challenges of military life. The novel truly explores the sacrifices made by those who serve and the loved ones who stand by them. For anyone wondering about the tropes, you’ll find elements of fated lovers, second-chance romance, and a strong sense of destiny that makes their connection feel truly special. And for those of you curious about the 'spice level' – you won't be disappointed! While it’s not the sole focus, the chemistry between Izzy and Nate is palpable and definitely steamy. Rebecca Yarros knows how to build tension and deliver those intense, heartfelt moments that make you swoon. It’s a perfect balance that adds depth to their passionate connection without overshadowing the emotional journey. Even the book cover itself hints at the epic journey within. The image of an airplane wing set against a breathtaking sunset sky perfectly encapsulates the blend of adventure, emotional depth, and the fateful encounters that define Izzy and Nate's story. It’s a visual promise of the kind of immersive reading experience you're about to embark on. If you, like me, were hesitant about military romance, give 'In the Likely Event' a try. It’s a testament to Rebecca Yarros’s skill that she can make you fall in love with a genre you thought wasn't for you. Her writing is rich with emotion, well-developed characters, and a plot that keeps you turning pages. If you enjoyed this, I'd highly recommend exploring her other works like 'The Last Letter' or 'Fourth Wing,' which also showcase her incredible storytelling talent. 'In the Likely Event' is truly a gem, and it’s easy to see why it quickly became a 5/5 read for me!
