Fun Mexican cooking class in Cabo, Mexico

My boyfriend and I recently went to Cabo for our first time. We spent 4 amazing days there and this is one of our highlights: the cooking class at Metate.

👍Why I like it: This is an awesome opportunity to learn some Mexican techniques and spend quality time with your loved one. It was super fun & engaging. The food there was *chef’s kiss 🤌🏻*. The restaurant also got Michelin guide💗. My personal recommendation is that you gotta order the octopus tacos 🐙🌮! They are the best tacos I’ve ever had in my life.

It wasn't just about following a recipe; it was a deep dive into the heart of Mexican cuisine. One of the most satisfying parts was getting our hands dirty by making fresh corn tortillas from scratch. There’s something incredibly rewarding about pressing the masa, watching it puff up on the comal (griddle), and knowing you’ve created the perfect base for your meal. It truly elevated every bite! We also delved into the vibrant world of salsas, learning to balance the heat of chiles with the freshness of tomatoes and cilantro. But the culinary adventure didn’t stop there. The class included an exhilarating mixology lesson! We got to channel our inner bartenders, learning to muddle, shake, and stir traditional Mexican cocktails. Crafting our own refreshing beverages, complete with fresh garnishes and chili-salt rims, was such a fun way to cool down after all the cooking. The instructors shared secrets to balancing flavors, and we even learned how to make our own unique concoctions. Another highlight was the preparation of fresh ceviche. We used incredibly fresh local seafood, combined with zesty lime juice, finely diced onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. It was a masterclass in clean, bright flavors, proving that simple ingredients, when handled correctly, can create an explosion of taste. The chefs also showed us how to plate our creations, turning each dish into 'edible art,' as they called it. The visual appeal was almost as delightful as the taste! And of course, those octopus tacos! What made them so exceptional? It was the perfectly grilled, tender octopus, paired with a tangy pickled red cabbage, a hint of radish, and a smoky, secret sauce, all nestled in those warm, handmade tortillas. The chefs guided us through every step, ensuring each element contributed to a symphony of textures and flavors. This class truly offered a comprehensive look into Mexican culinary traditions, from farm-to-table ingredients to the art of presentation. We walked away not just full, but with newfound skills and a deeper appreciation for the rich culinary heritage of Mexico, making it an absolute must-do for anyone visiting Cabo!
