For as long as I’ve been shaving, my skin has been prone to bumps and redness. I’ve tried almost every product I could think of, been recommended, or seen at the store and I think this line up here is my tried and true. Let’s get into it:
1. Shaving with a razor that can get the closest shave. I’ve found that the Flamingo razor works best with my skin without irritating it! I love that I’m also able to just buy blade refills rather than purchasing a brand new razor every time.
2. Shaving creams and gels that provide more than just hair removal. When shaving in sensitive areas, I reach for Coochy, that has a conditioning and moisturizing complex and I’ve found that I get minimal to no bumps!
3. After care is key! My skin feels its driest after I shave so I moisturize right after getting out of the shower. A tip: moisturize when your skin is still a bit damp to lock in extra hydration! After, I follow up with an ingrown solution roll-on in areas that tend to get bumps the most and rub a chafing stick in areas that get dark, so armpits and thighs.

... Read moreHaving struggled with skin irritation and razor bumps for years, I understand how challenging it is to find a shaving routine that truly works for sensitive skin. One detail I’ve found essential is using a razor designed to provide a close shave while being gentle—like the Flamingo razor. Its refillable blades not only save money but also reduce waste, which is a bonus.
Equally important is the shaving cream. From my experience, choosing a cream such as Coochy with moisturizing and conditioning ingredients prevents that uncomfortable dryness and redness that usually follows shaving sensitive areas. For me, it felt like my skin was protected and soothed during the shave.
Post-shave care can't be overlooked. I always moisturize immediately after showering, while my skin is still a bit damp. This simple step helps lock in moisture which keeps my skin feeling soft longer. Areas prone to bumps, like inner thighs and armpits, benefit greatly from a specialized ingrown hair and bump solution with salicylic acid—this helps keep pores clear and reduces inflammation.
Additionally, I apply a brightening stick specifically where I notice darkening due to frequent shaving or chafing. This multitasking product not only reduces irritation but also even outs my skin tone over time. Incorporating these targeted care steps into my shaving routine has transformed my skin, helping me enjoy a smooth shave without the common irritation.
I encourage you to experiment with these types of products and find what suits your unique skin texture. Remember, consistency and gentle care go a long way toward healthier, silky smooth skin after every shave.
