Hot Cheeto Balls 🔥
Ingredients
-ground beef
- white rice
-shredded cheese
-flour
-eggs
-hot chips (crushed)
-oil
Cook ground beef with seasonings (onions and bell peppers) to your liking then drain. Cook rice to your liking. In a big bowl add the ground beef and cooked rice as well as lots of shredded cheese (depending on how cheesy you want it). Mix everything together!! In two separate bowls add 3 eggs to one and some flour in the other. Add crushed hot puffs and/or hot Cheetos in a ziplock bag. Take a handful of the ground beef mixture and roll it into a small ball, coat the ball in the egg mixture then flour then back in the egg mixture and then in the crushed hot chips, then set the hot Cheeto ball to the side. Repeat steps for however many hot Cheeto balls you want to make!! When done; fry the hot Cheeto balls in hot oil for 2-5 mins occasionally turning/flipping them to cook and become crispy! (Do Not Burn!)
When crispy take the balls out the oil and let them sit for a couple mins to cool. Garnish with parsley and serve!
Making your own Hot Cheeto Balls is such a fun and rewarding kitchen adventure! While the basic recipe is straightforward, I've picked up a few tips and tricks that really elevate them from good to absolutely amazing. If you’re like me and love a little extra crunch and flavor, these pointers will help you get those perfectly crispy, red hot Cheeto balls every single time. First, let's talk about the ground beef and rice mixture. The key here is balance. You want enough binder to hold everything together, but not so much that it tastes bready. For the ground beef, I usually go for an 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio. This gives enough flavor and moisture without being overly greasy. When cooking it, drain off as much excess fat as possible. As for the rice, fully cooked and slightly sticky rice works best. This helps it meld with the beef and cheese. Don't be shy with the shredded cheese – it’s what gives that wonderful gooey center! I've found that a good sharp cheddar or a Monterey Jack blend works wonders for both flavor and melt-factor. Make sure all ingredients are well combined in your bowl; a uniform mixture prevents balls from breaking apart during frying. Next up, the coating process is crucial for achieving that iconic crispy exterior. The standard egg-flour-egg-crushed chips method is fantastic. My personal tip for the crushed hot chips? Make sure they are finely crushed, almost to a powder, but still with some small crunchy bits. This allows for an even coating and maximum crispiness. I often use a food processor for a few pulses to get the perfect texture. When you roll your beef and rice mixture into small balls, make sure they are firm. The egg wash acts as the glue, and the flour helps the second egg wash adhere better. The final coating of crushed hot chips is what creates that beautiful, vibrant red crust you see in the photos – it should completely cover the ball. Lay them out in an aluminum tray as you go, ensuring they don't touch, so the coating sets evenly before frying. Now, for the frying technique. This is where you achieve that ultimate crispiness. Use a neutral oil with a high smoke point, like vegetable or canola oil. The temperature is key – aim for around 350-375°F (175-190°C). Don't overcrowd the pan; fry them in batches so the oil temperature doesn't drop too much. This ensures they cook evenly and become golden-brown and crispy, rather than soggy. Keep a close eye on them, turning them occasionally for 2-5 minutes until they're perfectly golden and the exterior is firm. Once they're out of the oil, let them rest on a wire rack over paper towels to drain any excess oil. This helps maintain their crispiness! Finally, let's talk serving and dipping sauces. While they're delicious on their own, a good dipping sauce can take them to the next level. A simple ranch dressing is always a hit, but I also love a cooling cilantro-lime crema or even a spicy sriracha mayo. The visual of the crispy hot Cheeto balls served with a small cup of dipping sauce is just irresistible! Don't forget a sprinkle of fresh parsley for garnish; it adds a nice pop of color and freshness. These are fantastic as an appetizer for game night, a unique party snack, or even just a fun weekend treat. Enjoy making these spicy, cheesy, crispy delights!
