Honest Bali Food Diary 🥞🍕

Back home from my trip and sorting through the food archives! Overall, the food quality in Bali was incredibly impressive...a beautiful mix of vibrant local flavors and classic Western dishes.

But here’s a little insider tip if you're planning a trip: on the main Bali island, the restaurants with stunning sea views definitely charge a premium for the location, while the food standard can be pretty 👎 average. 🙄 The best gems are often tucked just a little bit inland!

Taking this final week to rest up before my hands get back to church book restorations and some exciting new crafting projects! 📚🧵

... Read moreDuring my recent Bali trip, I found that exploring beyond the usual tourist spots truly enriched my food experience. While many restaurants with stunning ocean views like those in Uluwatu or Nusa Penida offer breathtaking settings, their food quality doesn’t always justify the high prices. Instead, the real culinary gems lie inland, especially in areas like Ubud. In Ubud, places like Watercress are known for combining healthy ingredients with delicious flavors, offering everything from fresh salads to gourmet burgers that perfectly balance taste and nutrition. Sampling local specialties such as Balinese satay at appropriately sized portions was a highlight for me, showcasing the authentic flavors of the region without overwhelming your palate. For those who want to enjoy vibrant local food while avoiding tourist traps, seeking out smaller eateries or warungs within the island brings the best results. These places provide colorful, fresh, and beautifully presented dishes, often made with locally sourced ingredients. The juxtaposition of traditional Balinese cooking with accessible Western options means there’s something for every taste. Trying drinks like the Penida Colada or meals with a sunset backdrop next to the sea on Nusa Penida was a pleasant experience, but balancing these visits with inland dining ensured a well-rounded food adventure. For travelers heading to Bali, planning your meals with this mix in mind can greatly enhance your trip. To sum up, don't just rely on the glitzy seaview restaurants. Delve a little deeper to discover food spots that combine a welcoming atmosphere with superb, reasonably priced dishes. This approach not only maximizes your culinary pleasure but also supports local businesses off the main tourist track.
