Making the hard call 💔📖

We were back at the church to continue our book restoration journey.

Working on the hymnals made us realize just how well-loved and well-used they have been over the last few decades.

After a thorough assessment, seeing that most of the books were oxidized or broken, reality set in: the condition didn't justify a full restoration. We had to make the painful decision to replace them all with brand-new copies for the pews.

So, we started removing the old books, wrapping the new ones in protective adhesive covers, and placing them out on the pews.

Yes, it’s quite a bit of work, but this incredible team has been working together for almost a year now. Watch us in the video—we barely need to speak a word. We’ve reached that peak "auto-pilot" level of teamwork where everyone instinctively knows their role, grabs a task, and gets to work in perfect, silent harmony. 🤫✨

Thank God for His blessings and grace in putting us together. 🙏❤️

... Read moreRestoring cherished church hymnals is often an emotional and challenging process. From my personal experience volunteering in similar projects, I’ve learned that deciding when to replace rather than restore can be one of the hardest calls. Hymnals that have been used for decades carry not just worn pages but memories of countless worship moments. In our project, we faced extensive oxidation and physical damage that made full restoration impractical. Choosing to replace all hymnals meant honoring their legacy while ensuring future congregations have clean, durable copies. One key tip I found invaluable is to protect the new books with adhesive covers. This simple step helps maintain their condition longer against wear and tear. Another highlight of such projects is the silent but synchronized teamwork that develops. When a team has worked together over months, each member instinctively knows their role, allowing the project to progress smoothly even without much verbal communication. This kind of harmony truly reflects the spirit of community service. Lastly, this journey is a testament to faith and grace. Knowing we’re preserving tools of worship adds deeper meaning to every action, from removing old hymnals to placing new ones carefully back on the pews. For those considering similar restoration efforts, balance practicality with respect for history, and embrace teamwork and faith to navigate the hard calls gracefully.
