As An Incoming Junior In College And With Freshman Starting To Buy Things For Their Dorm, Here Is A Few "Buy Or Bye" Items (From Personal Experiences)
✨Drying Mat: Your Shower Caddy And Shower Shows Are Going To Be Wet And Especially If You Have Community Showers, You Don't Want To Leave Your Stuff In There, And If You Leave It On The Carpet, You Can Get Mold. Yikes.
✨Shoe Organizer: From A Person Who LOVES Shoes, I honestly brought too many, I wore 2 Pairs The Entire Year. My Roommate Got One Of These And She Literally Only Touched Her Converse That Were On The Floor.
✨Robe: I Used To Change In The Shower Stall, But They Were WAYYYY Too Cramped. I Would Get A Robe For 3 Reasons:
• If You Feel Comfortable Changing In Your Room You Dont Need To Walk From The Bathroom To Your Room In A Towel
• If You Forget Something In Your Room You Can Just Slide On The Robe
•You Can Undress In Your Room So You Don't Have To Carry Your Dirty Clothes After You Showered
✨Small Trash Can: Most Dorms Give You A Small Trash Can In Your Room Already, But It's Very Inconvenient. I Was Walking To The Trash Room Every Day To Take Out Garbage, It Would Be Easier To Buy A Big One
✨Closet Curtain: My Sophomore Dorm Room Did Not Come With A Closed Door Wardrobe. With My Closet Being In The Open, I Got A Curtain And Hung It Up With A Shower Tension Rod For A Little More Privacy, Especially If You Have People Over. It Also Just Is Aesthetic And Makes Your Room Look Cleaner.
✨Printer: PLEASE DO NOT BRING A PRINTER. You think it would be easier but it just takes up a lot of space and ink costs so much money. In my Dorm Building, We Had A Printing Station That Was Free And There Will Be Multiple Free Printing On Campus. If Not Free, It's Like 5-10 Cents A Page.
✨Brita: I Regret Not Buying A Brita. Especially If You Live On An Upper Floor. Some Dorms Don't Have A Water Station On Every Floor, And Having To Take Your Water Bottle Downstairs Multiple Times A Day Was Not Fun. Even Though Most Water Stations Have Filtered Water, I Can Count Dozens Of Times Where The Filter Was Bad And I Had To Beg Someone From Another Building To Let Me In At 2am So I Can Get Water. Just Bring The Brita.
