From Tight to Tent: The Weight Loss Glow-Up No One Talks About 👗✈️💪🏾

When I first started my Monjaro journey, I never imagined I’d be here—77 pounds down and still flying high as a flight attendant chasing my wellness goals while juggling altitude, airport terminals, and a jam-packed schedule.

This dress? The first clip is from September 1st, 2024. Babyyyy, I could barely breathe in it. Sitting down? A struggle. Zip it all the way? Please. I was serving cute and compressed 😂

Fast forward to September 19th, 2025, and the same exact dress now looks like I thrifted it from my grandma’s closet. It’s so big, I can tie it in a knot—literally. It’s wild, because nobody prepares you for the part of the weight loss journey where your body shrinks but your closet doesn’t.

✨ Losing weight is beautiful, but it’s also expensive. ✨

As a plus-size Black woman on this journey, I just want to remind everyone: when you drop multiple sizes fast—whether you’re on Monjaro, had surgery, or doing it all natural—you will outgrow your wardrobe (physically, emotionally, and aesthetically). And most of us don’t have the means to buy new clothes every month.

So here’s my open call 📢 — to any clothing brands, plus-size inclusive companies, or Black-owned fashion houses: I would LOVE to partner with you, wear your pieces, and showcase the beauty of evolving in style. Let’s highlight this new chapter of my journey, together. 💃🏾

This is your friendly reminder to be kind to your body, celebrate every stage, and never feel ashamed of growing out of what no longer fits—in life or in your closet 🫶🏾

... Read moreWeight loss journeys are more than just physical transformations; they deeply impact emotional well-being and daily life, including what we wear. Many people underestimate the significant challenge of wardrobe changes as their bodies shrink, especially when weight loss happens rapidly or across multiple sizes. This is particularly hard for plus-size individuals who face limited options and higher costs for fashionable, well-fitting clothing. For many, like a plus-size Black woman on a fast weight loss path, the emotional and financial aspects of replacing or adapting a wardrobe can be overwhelming. Buying new clothes every month is not feasible for most, which can lead to feelings of frustration or disconnect from one's evolving self-image. This aspect of weight loss is rarely talked about but deserves more spotlight. Embracing style evolution during weight loss can be a beautiful form of self-celebration and self-care. Thrift shopping and creative styling can be cost-effective ways to manage changing sizes, turning oversized pieces into trendy outfits, such as tying a too-large dress into a fashionable knot. Learning to see clothing as adaptive rather than fixed helps maintain confidence and joy during transitional phases. Additionally, there is a growing need for brands to support this underserved population by offering plus-size inclusive options that evolve with their customers’ changing bodies. More collaborations between influencers and plus-size inclusive or Black-owned fashion labels can highlight the importance of style that accommodates transformation. Together, they can champion body positivity, inclusivity, and the reality of evolving sizes. Anyone on a weight loss journey should remember to be kind to themselves, honor their body’s progress, and celebrate every stage, whether packing clothes away or buying new pieces. Outgrowing your closet symbolizes personal growth and wellness achievement. Sharing these authentic stories helps reduce stigma and empowers others to embrace their unique path with style and grace.
