Disturbing
Online bullying has become an alarming issue, especially when it involves unfair judgment based on race and body image. From personal experience, witnessing such harsh criticisms on social media platforms reveals how damaging these attacks can be to someone's mental health and self-esteem. I remember when a friend posted a simple video of herself enjoying the rain, only to receive a barrage of hateful comments targeting her physical appearance. This is exactly what happened to Samyra, as mentioned in the original post, where users compared her body to that of Ariana Grande's in a discriminatory manner. The emotional toll of such comments can be overwhelming. It's crucial to recognize that everyone’s body is sacred and deserving of respect, irrespective of societal beauty standards. The racism and fatphobia seen here show how deeply ingrained biases influence online behavior. Addressing internet bullying requires collective awareness and action. Reporting hateful comments, supporting victims publicly, and promoting body positivity can help create a safer online environment. Platforms should enforce stricter policies against discriminatory comments to protect users from harassment. In sharing this, I hope to encourage others to reflect on their own online behavior, stand against bullying, and promote kindness and inclusivity. Everyone deserves to express themselves freely without fear of unwarranted attacks based on appearance or race.
