If you’re thinking about gel-x….

I got my Gel-x kit about a year ago now. This is my most recent set!

I’ve done around 10 sets in total (on myself) and have definitely gone through alot of trial and error getting them to look how I like.

Personally in this economy, I think investing $70 once and being able to express my creativity is a much better deal than $100 every 2 weeks 🗿

What do you think?

... Read moreHey everyone! So, you’ve heard about my year-long journey with DIY Gel-X and how much I love the savings and creative freedom. If you’re truly thinking about making the switch and doing your own nails at home, let me share some of the lessons I learned through all my trial and error, so you can skip some of the headaches! First off, getting started with a good quality gel x nail kit is key. When I first invested my $70, I made sure to research what was included. You'll definitely want a reliable UV/LED lamp, good quality nail tips (I love the natural short look for everyday wear, but sometimes I experiment with stiletto bangle nails for fun!), a strong nail prep solution, primer, base coat, and of course, the builder gel itself. Don't cheap out on the lamp or the builder gel – they make all the difference in durability and longevity. For those dreaming of a classic look, achieving elegant French tip Gel-X nails at home is totally doable with the right brushes and a steady hand! Speaking of application, here are a few things I wish I knew when I started how to gel nails at home: Nail Prep is EVERYTHING: Seriously, don’t skip this. Properly pushing back cuticles, gently buffing the nail plate, and dehydrating it with alcohol or a specialized prep solution will prevent lifting. This is crucial for keeping your gel overlay on natural nails looking flawless. Size Matters: Make sure your Gel-X tips fit perfectly from side wall to side wall. If they're too small, they'll pop off. Too big, and they'll look unnatural. Thin Layers: Apply your builder gel in thin, even layers. Curing thick layers can lead to heat spikes and uneven application. Curing Time: Follow your lamp's instructions. Under-curing leads to weak nails, and over-curing can make them brittle. Practice Patience: My first few sets were... a journey! But with each set, I got better. Don't expect salon-perfect results on day one. It's all part of the DIY process. Many of you might also be wondering about removing your Gel-X nails. This is just as important as application to keep your natural nails healthy. Avoid peeling or prying them off! The safest way to take off gel is by soaking. First, break the seal by gently filing off the top coat. Then, soak your nails in acetone, preferably in a bowl, or use cotton balls soaked in acetone wrapped in foil. Let them soak for 15-20 minutes. The gel should become soft and gummy, allowing you to gently push it off with a wooden cuticle stick. Never force it! If it’s still stubborn, soak for longer. This method helps preserve your natural nail health, which is a big win for any at-home manicure enthusiast. For those looking to explore different looks, don't forget about Gel-X colors! While I often stick to clear or natural tones for a short natural look, there's a whole world of gel polishes to apply over your Gel-X extensions. The possibilities for expressing your creativity are endless. Whether you're aiming for gel x nails short natural look or more dramatic gel tips nails, the at-home kit gives you that flexibility. It's been a truly rewarding experience, and I wholeheartedly encourage my fellow DIY girlies to give it a try. The initial investment in a best at home gel x nail kit pays for itself quickly, and the satisfaction of rocking a beautiful set of nails that you created yourself is truly priceless. Cheers to beautiful, budget-friendly nails!
