Vietnam traffic light countdown timer
I wish the traffic light system in the United States has a timer countdown like they do in Vietnam 👍🚗🛵

Having personally experienced driving in both Vietnam and the United States, I can say that the traffic light countdown timer in Vietnam significantly improves the driving experience. When approaching an intersection, the visible countdown gives clear information on how much time is left before the light changes, helping drivers and motorcyclists to better anticipate stopping or moving. This system reduces anxiety and confusion, especially in busy urban areas like Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon). I noticed that it improves traffic flow because drivers do not have to guess when the light will change, reducing abrupt stops or reckless accelerations. In contrast, in the US, the absence of such timers often leaves drivers uncertain, which can lead to delays or unsafe decisions. Implementing Vietnam-style countdown timers on US traffic lights could promote safer driving habits, prevent violations, and even decrease accidents caused by sudden red light changes. Moreover, this feature is particularly useful for pedestrians and two-wheelers, who form a large portion of Vietnam's road users. Knowing exactly how many seconds remain helps everyone share the road more responsibly. From my experience, adopting countdown timers would be a valuable improvement in many countries, not just the US, enhancing traffic awareness and overall road safety. It’s a simple but effective innovation worth considering globally.
