A Fruit Salad sponsored by: WIC

Moment of vulnerability: I just lost my job and had to get back on state benefits which included WIC. They were the first to get processed so we racked up on $28 worth of vegetables. Thats the limit of fruits and vegetables im able to get for the month. We got what's pictured here watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, apples, and peaches(not in the picture). Moments like these make me thank God for what we have and what im able to get in the moment cause without a job life is very scarry. Im forever thankful for what I have and I cant focus on what I dont have. Once you start pondering on what you dont have that's when the sadness and depression sets in. Just fight through it and know things will get better, because you're doing everything in your power to make it better. 🙌🏾

Programs like WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) provide much-needed support by offering monthly allowances for fresh fruits and vegetables. In my experience, the $28 limit meant carefully selecting fruits that offer both nutritional value and variety, such as watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, apples, and peaches. These choices not only supply essential vitamins and antioxidants but also help brighten meals during uncertain times. What stood out to me was the importance of appreciating small blessings. Facing vulnerability head-on and sharing this journey greatly helped in coping emotionally. Instead of dwelling on what’s temporarily missing, focusing on the positive impact of WIC benefits kept me hopeful. Preparing a fruit salad from these fresh picks became more than just a meal — it was a reminder that nourishing yourself is an act of self-care and resilience. For others going through hardship, I recommend maximizing WIC benefits by exploring seasonal fruits which tend to be more affordable and flavorful. Also, combining fruits to create simple, delicious dishes can uplift your mood and provide variety. Remember, this period is temporary. Maintaining gratitude, embracing vulnerability, and prioritizing your well-being can make a significant difference on the road to recovery.
