Doggy photo shoot at the beach!!

I absolutely LOVE taking my light-colored dog, my 'lil homie,' on adventures, and beach days are definitely at the top of our list! After our recent photo shoot at Long Beach, I realized just how much joy these moments bring, and I wanted to share some tips I've picked up along the way for anyone hoping to capture their own light-colored dog's best beach moments. First off, getting those perfect shots of a light-colored dog at the beach can be a bit tricky, but so rewarding! The bright sand and sky can sometimes wash out their beautiful fur. I've found that early morning or late afternoon golden hour lighting works wonders. The softer light really highlights their coat without overexposing it. Try to shoot when the sun is at an angle, not directly overhead. Also, playing with contrast can help. A colorful bandana or, like my dog, a cute sweater, can really make them pop against the natural background. Speaking of sweaters, choosing one that's comfortable and not too hot for the beach is key! Mine loves his, but I always make sure it's breathable and easy to move in. Beyond just the photos, making the beach day enjoyable and safe for your furry friend is super important. Here’s my go-to checklist for a successful beach outing: Plenty of Fresh Water: This is non-negotiable! Dogs can get dehydrated quickly, especially when they're running around and playing in the sun. I always bring a collapsible bowl and a big bottle of water. Shade: Even if your dog has light-colored fur and loves the sun, having a shaded spot is crucial to prevent overheating. A small pop-up tent or even a large umbrella can make a huge difference. Paw Protection: Sand can get incredibly hot, and coarse sand can be abrasive. Booties are an option, but often just checking the sand temperature with your own hand is enough. If it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them! Towels & Wipes: My 'lil homie' always finds a way to get sandy and wet, so having old towels and some pet-friendly wipes for a quick clean-up before getting back in the car is a lifesaver. Toys! A floating frisbee or a waterproof ball makes beach play extra fun. Just be mindful of other beachgoers and ensure your dog plays nicely. Waste Bags: Always, always, always clean up after your dog. It keeps the beach enjoyable for everyone. Sun Protection (for light-colored dogs): Just like us, light-colored dogs can be prone to sunburn, especially on their nose, ears, and any areas with sparse fur. Ask your vet about pet-safe sunscreens if you're concerned, or keep them in the shade during peak sun hours. This is especially important for my 'lil homie' during our beach day photo shoot. Finally, remember that the best photos come from genuine moments of joy. Don't stress too much about getting every shot perfect. Focus on having fun with your 'lil homie,' and the camera will capture their natural happiness.
