... Read moreYou guys asked, and I'm so excited to dive a little deeper into some of the art I shared, especially that Billie Eilish painting! It's definitely one of my most asked-about pieces, and honestly, capturing her iconic green hair and unique style was such a fun challenge. When I started on that piece, I really focused on getting the vibrancy of the green right – mixing a few different shades to give it that depth you see. For anyone trying to paint or draw portraits, my biggest tip is always to start with a good reference photo that truly captures the person's essence. Don't be afraid to exaggerate colors a little to make it pop, especially with someone as expressive as Billie! Speaking of favorite mediums, you might have noticed a lot of my sketches, like the honey bear jar, the detailed stack of pancakes, and even that adorable sea turtle, are done on tan paper. Seriously, tan paper is my fav! It adds such a warm, subtle base to your drawings and makes highlights and shadows really stand out. You can use white colored pencils or gel pens for those bright accents, and it just gives everything a softer, more professional finish than plain white paper. If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend picking up a pad! Another piece that always gets a second look is my realistic food art – like those pancakes with syrup and blueberries. The trick to making food look edible? Layers! Build up your colors gradually, focus on textures (like the fluffiness of the pancakes or the glisten of the syrup), and pay attention to light reflections. It really makes a difference. I also shared my charcoal still life piece from high school. Charcoal is amazing for dramatic effects and strong contrasts. For still life, composition is key. Play around with how objects interact, how light hits them, and create interesting shadows. It's a fantastic way to practice your shading and form. And for those who saw my watercolor portrait, that was a wild ride! Watercolor can be tricky because it's so unforgiving, but the way colors blend and bleed together is just magical. It teaches you to embrace imperfections and work with the medium's flow. Whether you're into vibrant acrylics, delicate watercolors, or detailed pencil sketches, remember that every piece you create, even the ones from high school (like my aurora lights painting or that hand holding the sphere), tells a story and helps you grow as an artist. Don't be afraid to experiment with different styles and subjects. From capturing the unique vibe of Billie Eilish to drawing everyday objects, it's all about enjoying the process and putting a bit of yourself into every stroke!
