「先月」は英語だと基本的に last month でOKです。日常会話でもビジネスメールでも一番よく使うので、まずはこれを覚えると困りません。 ■ いちばんシンプル：last month ・I went to Osaka last month.（先月、大阪に行きました） ・I started this job last month.（先月この仕事を始めました） 「先月は〜した」と言いたいときは、動詞の後ろに last month を置く形が楽です。 ■ 「先月に」は in last month じゃない？ 日本語の感覚で in last month と言いたくなるのですが、多くの場合は last month 単体で十分です。 ・I met him last month.（先月彼に会いました） 一方で「先月の間ずっと」みたいに“期間”を強調したいなら、during last month / throughout last month などが自然です。 ・We were very busy throughout last month.（先月はずっと忙しかった） ■ 「先月末」は英語で？ 「先月末」は状況によって言い方が少し変わります。よく使うのはこのあたりです。 ・at the end of last month（先月末に） ・toward the end of last month（先月末ごろ） 例文： ・We released the update at the end of last month.（先月末にアップデートを出しました） ・I got a message toward the end of last month.（先月末ごろに連絡が来ました） ■ 「先月の◯日」はこう言う 日付まで言うなら、last + 月 + 日付で言うより、月名をそのまま使う方が誤解がありません。 ・on April 25（4月25日に） ・on the 25th of April（同じ意味） 「先月25日」は、会話では “on April 25” のように月名で言い切るのが安全です。 ■ 便利な言い換え（文章でよく使う） ・the previous month（前月／先月：少しフォーマル） ・a month ago（1か月前：基準が“今日”になる） 例： ・Sales increased from the previous month.（売上が前月より増えた） ・I moved here a month ago.（1か月前にここへ引っ越した） 自分は最初、メールで「先月末」を英語にするときに迷っていましたが、at the end of last month をテンプレ化したら一気に楽になりました。まずは last month / at the end of last month をセットで覚えるのがおすすめです。
