I just had my 13-week, 4-day ultrasound for Journee Rue, and it was absolutely magical! ✨ Seeing our little one wiggling around on the screen was such a surreal experience, and it really brought home that this is all real. For anyone wondering what to expect around the 12-week fetus mark or navigating these early pregnancy stages, I wanted to share a bit about my journey and what I learned. At this stage, your baby is technically a fetus now, not just an embryo! They're growing so rapidly. Around 12 weeks, most of their major organs are formed, and they're starting to function. Their fingers and toes are fully separated, and they might even be practicing sucking and swallowing. During my ultrasound, the tech pointed out Journee Rue's tiny movements – it was incredible to see. Their little heart was beating strong, and they were even doing a little dance! This is often considered the end of the first trimester, a huge milestone for many. This early pregnancy ultrasound, often called the nuchal translucency (NT) scan, is more than just a peek at your baby. They measure the fluid at the back of the baby's neck, which helps assess the risk for certain genetic conditions. They also check for major structural abnormalities. For me, seeing Journee Rue's profile and getting clear measurements was so reassuring. The technician also confirmed the gestational age, which aligned perfectly with my dates. Some parents even get an early gender prediction, though it's not always 100% accurate at this stage – we're still waiting for ours! As for me, reaching the 13-week mark feels like a huge relief. Many of those early pregnancy symptoms like morning sickness start to ease up for some, though not for everyone! I've definitely noticed a bit more energy. It's a time when you might start sharing your news more widely, if you haven't already, and feeling a stronger connection to your growing bump. I'm already dreaming of nursery colors and tiny outfits! If you're heading into your 12 or 13-week scan, try to relax and enjoy the moment. Write down any questions you have beforehand, and don't be afraid to ask the sonographer to point out different parts of your baby. It's an amazing opportunity to bond with your little one before you even meet them. I'm already counting down the days until I can hold my babygirl, Journee Rue. What an incredible journey these pregnancy stages in weeks are!
