BUDGET MY PAYCHECK WITH ME

Let’s budget my bi-weekly paycheck!! To preface, I am 19 and work as a part time barista in Tulsa. I am lucky enough to live at home and pay no rent, so that is a big life saver!

This paycheck was $487.30. I had to take off multiple days the last couple of weeks for many events, so my check was much smaller than usual.

I list the important categories at the top, starting with my tithe. I pay my insurance every 6 months, so there is a fund set aside for that which gets a portion of my check each month.

After all categories were full, I was leftover with $0. $169.30 went into my high yield savings account with Discover!

Thanks for budgeting with me🙌🏼

One key strategy is to categorize expenses by importance, such as starting with fixed obligations like tithe and insurance, followed by essential spending on gas and food. Setting aside a dedicated fund for semi-annual expenses, like insurance payments, ensures no financial surprises. Living rent-free can significantly ease financial pressure, allowing more flexibility in budget allocation. However, even with limited income, establishing a disciplined savings habit, such as contributing leftovers to a high-yield savings account, helps build financial security over time. For young adults managing part-time incomes, using budgeting categories—tithe ($48), insurance savings ($100), gas ($40), food ($30), fun money ($100), and savings ($169.30)—ensures all crucial needs are covered while still enjoying discretionary spending. Importantly, the method of zeroing out the paycheck by the end of the budgeting process reflects the principle of giving every dollar a purpose to avoid overspending. High-yield savings accounts like those offered by Discover provide an excellent opportunity to grow emergency funds or save for future goals by earning better interest rates than traditional savings accounts. Overall, creating a flexible yet structured budget empowers part-time workers to handle income variability, meet obligations timely, and foster healthy financial habits early in life, paving the way for long-term financial well-being.
