Cheddar sourdough combines the bold flavors of cheddar cheese with the tangy notes of sourdough, creating a unique fusion of taste. This bread is not only delicious but also offers the wonderful texture that sourdough enthusiasts appreciate. To begin, ensure you have an active sourdough starter ready, which is essential for the fermentation process. The addition of sharp cheddar brings a rich creaminess that contrasts beautifully with the crusty exterior of the sourdough. In this recipe, the mixing and resting times are crucial for developing the gluten structure, which in turn helps the bread rise properly. The stretching and folding technique promotes strength while incorporating air into the dough, allowing for a beautiful texture. After bulk fermentation, the dough is shaped and allowed to cold ferment in the fridge, enhancing flavor and texture further. It’s vital to score the dough properly before baking, as this allows for controlled expansion and results in a gorgeous oven spring. Baking in a preheated Dutch oven ensures even heat distribution and a beautifully crispy crust. Allowing the bread to rest after baking ensures that the crumb sets and flavors meld together perfectly before slicing. Enjoy this inviting cheddar sourdough as an appetizer, a side for soups, or simply toasted with butter!
