🎵Book Review🎵: Holding on to you

Hey my book girls and book guys! I hope you missed me because I miss yall! 😘

Title: Holding on to you

Author: Ash Parsons

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Review:

Holding on to you was about finding yourself, it was about dealing with grief and it was also about a whole plethora of things. At first I couldn’t get into it because it bored me to no end, that and the homework of a college student pulled me away a lot. I also thought that it would be another typical tale of a pop star that got his start off of YouTube ( which I was right about that part btw), and how he turned to drugs and spending ridiculous amounts of money to numb his pain that everyone treated him like a God, however I was wrong about that. Holding on to you was about more than that it was about how even celebrities go through periods of depression to the point where they have to literally fake their own deaths and it’s also about how Rox loved Joshua so much that her delusion turned out to be a reality and that is the power of love right there people love can conquer all even in the face of fake death.

🎀Fave Quote🎀: “ A smile like falling. Like a weight, like sorrowful knowledge.”

... Read moreAfter finishing 'Holding on to You,' I've been thinking a lot about what makes an Ash Parsons story truly captivating, and this one definitely left an impression. When I first heard about a pop star faking his death, I admit I was a little skeptical, expecting something purely sensational. But what Ash Parsons delivers here is so much more profound. It's not just a dramatic plot; it's a deep dive into the human experience of finding yourself amidst overwhelming grief and complicated love. The original review touched on themes of grief, and I want to elaborate on how beautifully Ash Parsons handles it. It’s not a linear process, and 'Holding on to You' showcases the messy, often contradictory emotions that come with loss. The characters' journeys felt incredibly authentic, reminding me that even when life throws its worst at you, there's a path, however winding, towards healing and self-acceptance. It’s a powerful reminder that discovering who you truly are often happens in the most challenging moments. That initial thought that it was 'another typical tale of a pop star' quickly evaporated. Instead, the celebrity backdrop serves as a brilliant lens through which to explore mental health struggles, the pressures of public life, and the isolation that can come with fame. The book delves into depression in a way that feels raw and honest, making you empathize with characters who seem to have it all but are battling invisible demons. It really makes you think about how we perceive others and the hidden struggles beneath the surface. And let's talk about the 'fake death' element. This isn't just a gimmick; it's a pivotal point that forces Rox and Joshua to confront their deepest fears and desires. It raises questions about identity, reality, and how far love can truly stretch. For me, it wasn’t just about the shock factor, but about how this extreme situation reveals the true strength and fragility of human connection. It's a testament to Ash Parsons' storytelling that such a dramatic plot point feels so integral to the emotional core of the narrative. Funnily enough, I also learned that this book was previously titled 'The Falling Between Us.' Both titles, 'Holding on to You' and 'The Falling Between Us,' really speak to the central conflict and emotional stakes of the story. 'The Falling Between Us' hints at the space and emotional distance that can grow between people, especially when facing loss or deception. It's interesting how titles can frame your perception of a story, and both perfectly capture the intricate dance of relationships and personal struggles within its pages. Ash Parsons has a way of crafting characters that feel incredibly real, even in extraordinary circumstances. Her narrative style is immersive, pulling you into the emotional landscape of her characters. If you’re looking for an Ash Parsons story that offers more than just a surface-level plot, one that truly explores the depths of human emotion, grief, and the transformative power of love, then 'Holding on to You' (or 'The Falling Between Us,' if you recall it by its earlier name) is definitely one to pick up. It’s a journey of self-discovery wrapped in a compelling, emotional narrative that I think many readers will find both challenging and incredibly rewarding.
