OMG, planning our maternity shoot was such a journey, but so worth it! Seeing all your beautiful bumps and partners pop up on my feed really inspired us, and now I want to share some tips we picked up, especially for celebrating that bump with your significant other. We did ours around 35 weeks, and it felt perfect – my bump was super round and prominent, but I wasn't feeling too uncomfortable yet. Since we're due in a few weeks, a 'fall maternity photo' theme just made sense for us. The golden hour light in a field or by the water (like our photos!) creates such a magical, warm glow – perfect for those dreamy silhouettes you see everywhere. Think about what season you'll be shooting in and what natural backdrops are available. A rustic barn, a forest, or even your favorite park can be incredible. Outfit choices can really elevate your photos. For me, a flowy black dress was perfect for showing off the bump while still feeling elegant. My partner wore a comfy plaid shirt, which added a cozy, natural vibe that complemented the fall setting. Don't be afraid to coordinate without being too matchy-matchy! Think about colors that pop against your chosen background. Now, for the fun part: pose ideas for couples! This is where you really capture your connection. The Belly Cradle: Both of you gently holding your bump – one of the most classic and touching shots. Forehead Kisses & Embraces: Like in our photos, the tender moment of him kissing my forehead while we both held my belly just felt so natural and loving. Sitting on a blanket by a pond, wrapped in each other's arms, also makes for incredibly intimate shots. Walking Hand-in-Hand: Captures movement and your journey together. Silhouettes Against the Sunset: A black dress against a bright background creates such a dramatic and artistic shot that really highlights the bump shape. Looking at Each Other (or the bump): Sometimes the simplest poses, just looking into each other's eyes or both gazing at your future baby, are the most powerful. Playful Moments: Don't be afraid to be a little silly or laugh together! Those genuine smiles are priceless. Consider props! We kept it simple, focusing on us, but things like baby booties, a sonogram picture, or a cute sign with your due date can add a personal touch. A simple white blanket, as seen in one of our shots, can also create a cozy, intimate space. Finally, relax and trust your photographer. The best photos often come from genuine moments, not stiff posing. Talk to your photographer about your vision, but also be open to their suggestions.
