Are any of these any good? I see Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, and hunger games, which I already know are good. I also see some Colleen Hoover, which I hear mostly bad things about. I also see a few books that I see often on this app- fourth wing, good girls guide to murder, Icebreaker, The Housemaid books, If He Had Been With Me, as well as some Abby Jiminez which I hear good things about. Do you see any other good books here?
Also, why are Walmart books so expensive? Some of these are $20+ which I think is expensive for Walmart.

... Read moreWalking into Walmart, you're usually thinking about groceries or household items, but have you ever really dived into their book section? It can be a treasure trove, but also a bit overwhelming! I've spent my fair share of time browsing those shelves, and I've definitely found some fantastic reads and a few head-scratchers when it comes to pricing.
One thing I've noticed is Walmart always seems to have the most talked-about books, especially those trending on TikTok. I consistently see titles like 'Fourth Wing,' 'Icebreaker' by Elle Kennedy, and the 'Good Girl's Guide to Murder' series. These are often great picks for young adult (YA) readers or those who love a good fantasy or mystery with a modern twist. For adult romance, Colleen Hoover is practically a staple – 'It Starts With Us,' 'It Ends With Us,' and 'Heart Bones' are always there. While some people have mixed feelings, her books are undeniably popular and a good entry point if you're curious. I've also spotted Emily Henry's delightful 'Beach Read' and 'Happy Place,' and Abby Jimenez's heartwarming 'Just for the Summer,' which are usually safe bets for a feel-good read.
Beyond the trending titles, Walmart's selection often includes a solid range of established authors across various genres. If you're into thrillers, you can almost always find Stephen King, James Patterson, John Grisham, Lisa Gardner, and J.D. Robb. I've even seen 'The Housemaid' series, which has been quite a page-turner for many. For classic fantasy lovers, sometimes you get lucky and find older editions of series like 'Harry Potter' or 'Percy Jackson,' or the more recent Sarah J. Maas books. It's a great way to pick up a new read without a dedicated bookstore trip.
Thinking about age groups, Walmart does a pretty good job of having something for everyone. The YA section is robust with popular series, ideal for teenagers. The adult fiction section is dominated by romance and thrillers, perfect for a quick, engaging read. They also often have a decent children's book section, making it easy to grab a gift for a younger family member. Speaking of gifts, many of these popular titles make excellent presents for friends and family because they're widely recognized and generally well-liked. A new release from a popular author like Kristin Hannah or Nicholas Sparks is almost always a hit.
Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room: prices. I've definitely had moments where I've seen a book for $20+ and thought, 'Wait, isn't this Walmart?' It's true, sometimes their prices can be a bit higher than online retailers or even discount bookstores. However, I've also found some amazing deals, especially on their clearance racks or when they have special promotions. It's always worth checking for those yellow clearance stickers! For popular new releases, sometimes Walmart will have them at a competitive price, but it pays to quickly compare with an online store on your phone before committing. Don't be afraid to hunt for those bargains!
Overall, Walmart's book selection is dynamic. It's a mix of chart-toppers, genre mainstays, and occasional surprises. It might not have the niche selection of an independent bookstore, but for popular reads and convenient pickups, it's definitely worth a browse. What hidden gems have you found on their shelves?
