My handsome boy has always been a really good eater but, recently he has been teething I see about 4 teeth about to poke through so I’m surprised he’s still eating pretty good🩵
Anyway here are some of the recent meals I have been giving him and how much of it he actually eats!
Jameson loves purée fruit I think it’s a texture thing as well as a sugar thing, he has also really been liking cottage cheese, he just plays with eggs I think he likes the way they feel when he squeezes them lol🍳
I would love to hear about any of your LO and what they like eating/playing with😂

Seeing what other little ones enjoy can be super helpful when you're planning meals for your own 6-month-old, 9-month-old, or even a busy 1-year-old. I’ve definitely found myself looking for fresh ideas for my little guy, and it’s always a relief when they actually eat what you’ve prepared!
When my son was first starting solids around 6-8 months, I focused on easy, soft finger foods. Steamed carrots, like the ones in the 'Before' picture, were a huge hit, as were soft chunks of avocado and banana. Think about what they can easily mash with their gums. Simple cinnamon oatmeal, made a bit thicker, is also a fantastic way to introduce grains.
As he got a bit older, around 8-10 months, we introduced more variety and textures. This is when those turkey and cheese egg muffins became a staple – they’re so easy to hold! Don't forget about finely chopped crockpot chicken and potatoes; just make sure everything is super soft and small enough to prevent choking. Sliced grapes (always quartered lengthwise!) and moon drop grapes are great for little fingers learning to pick up smaller pieces. Cottage cheese has also been a surprise favorite, and it’s packed with protein! And don't forget the greens! Soft-steamed broccoli florets are fantastic for developing fine motor skills and getting those valuable nutrients in.
For a 9-month-old baby food menu, I try to include a good mix of proteins, healthy fats, and carbs. Peanut butter French toast roll-ups, cut into strips, are a fun breakfast. We also love trying different smoothie bowls – the mango peach smoothie bowl and peach cucumber smoothie bowl are fantastic ways to get fruits and veggies in, especially when they're teething. Chilled cucumber sticks can be a real lifesaver for sore gums!
By the time your little one is nearing 1 year old, they'll likely be eating a lot of what you eat, just modified. Pot roast and mashed potatoes (soft, of course!) are perfect examples of adapted family meals. Remember to avoid added salt and sugar. Buttered toast strips are simple and satisfying.
Dealing with teething can definitely change their appetite, as I mentioned with my son. Soft, cool foods like yogurt, smoothie bowls, or even just a cold, wet washcloth to chew on can make a big difference. Sometimes, they just want to play with their food, like my son with eggs – and that's okay! It's all part of exploring textures and flavors.
Always remember to supervise closely, especially with new foods, and be aware of common choking hazards and allergens. Every baby is different, so enjoy the journey of discovering what your little eater loves!
