... Read moreBeing sick in college is definitely not ideal, but it's something many of us face. I wanted to share a more detailed look into how I navigated a day feeling under the weather, trying to stay on top of my studies while also focusing on getting better. It’s a delicate balance, and I’m always learning! When I woke up feeling a bit off, my usual 8:40-9:40 'get ready for the day' routine felt a little slower than usual. My priority was hydration, so I immediately made some tea and mixed up some Emergen-C. It’s so easy to forget to drink enough fluids when you're busy or not feeling great, but I find it makes a huge difference in how I feel throughout the day. Skipping breakfast is also tempting, but a little something, even if it's just a warm drink, really helps kickstart recovery. Heading to my 10:05-11:20 'Cultural and Linguistic Literacy' class, I considered staying home, but decided to power through as I felt well enough to attend. I tried to sit closer to the front to minimize distractions and focus purely on the lecture. For my 11:40-12:55 'Activities for Children' class, I found myself relying more on active listening and mental notes, knowing I’d revisit the material later. It’s a challenge to absorb everything when you’re not 100%, so I make sure to prioritize what’s most important. Lunch around 1:00-2:30 was all about comfort and ease. A simple grilled cheese sandwich with a bowl of red sauce hit the spot, and I continued to sip on water. Quick, nourishing meals are key because cooking a big meal is the last thing you want to do. My last class, 'Medical Ethics' from 2:50-4:05, required a bit more concentration, so I made sure to take plenty of notes, even if they were messier than usual. After classes, a 'post class shower with my shower reliever vapor pods' was an absolute lifesaver. The steam and menthol really helped clear my sinuses and made me feel refreshed – a small luxury that makes a big impact. For dinner, a spicy tuna roll was an easy and delicious option. Sometimes, you just need a treat that doesn't require much effort. My evening consisted of 'homework for rest of night!' but I made a conscious effort not to overdo it. I broke tasks into smaller chunks and took frequent breaks to rest. It’s crucial to listen to your body and not push yourself too far, as rest is just as important for recovery as any medication. I find that even if I can't be fully productive, tackling a few small things helps me feel less overwhelmed later. Beyond just my routine for this specific day, I've learned a few essential tips for managing sick days in college. Always communicate with your professors as soon as you can; a quick email often makes a world of difference. Don't hesitate to use campus health services—they're there to help and can offer professional advice. Prioritize sleep above all else, drink plenty of water, and nourish your body with easy-to-digest foods. Simple preventative measures like frequent hand washing and a balanced diet can also go a long way in keeping you healthy. It’s all about finding that balance between staying on track with your studies and giving your body the time it needs to heal. Hope this more detailed look into my experience helps you navigate your own college life when illness strikes!
