🌳 Hidden Under the Trees: JB’s Old-School Breakfast Spot

Taman Melodies Hawker Centre is one of Johor Bahru’s well-loved traditional breakfast spots, and a place that holds many childhood memories for locals.

For decades, people have been coming here for the nostalgic flavours, affordable prices, and the warm neighbourhood atmosphere. Every morning, you’ll see familiar faces returning, and some popular stalls sell out early.

🥣 Handmade Tau Fu Fa

Silky smooth with a slight natural texture, showing its traditional handmade process. Light, refreshing, and full of rich soy flavour.

🥢 Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun

The rice rolls were soft, smooth, and had the perfect thickness. You can choose your own toppings like fried items, fish balls, tofu, and more, then finish it with their signature red sauce and sweet sauce. Sweet, fragrant, and not overly heavy.

🔥 Hing Kee Char Kway Kak (Fried Carrot Cake)

One of the busiest stalls here! The wok is constantly moving in the morning, creating that irresistible wok hei aroma. It’s a favourite breakfast choice among many loyal customers.

Of course, there are many other classic stalls here, each with their own stories and regular customers.

... Read moreVisiting Taman Melodies Hawker Centre instantly feels like stepping back in time, where the community spirit and authentic tastes combine to create a memorable breakfast experience. I remember the first time I tried the handmade Tau Fu Fa here; its silky smooth texture and natural bean flavor reminded me of the care and traditional method behind it — not something you get with mass-produced soy desserts. The Ipoh-style Chee Cheong Fun is another highlight, notable for its soft, smooth rice rolls that perfectly complement the sweet and fragrant red and sweet sauces. I liked that I could customize it with toppings like fried items and fish balls, which made my breakfast both delicious and satisfying. One cannot miss experimenting with the Hing Kee Char Kway Kak. The lively cooking process with the wok’s constant motion fills the hawker centre with an irresistible wok hei aroma that welcomes regulars as well as newcomers. It’s no surprise that this dish sells out early, so arriving before peak hours is worth it. Aside from the food, the hawker centre’s atmosphere truly captures the essence of Johor Bahru mornings — a friendly, bustling neighborhood vibe where familiar faces gather and stories unfold with every meal. For anyone exploring JB or locals craving comfort food, this spot offers more than just breakfast; it offers a connection to the city’s heritage and culinary soul. Pro tip: Come early to avoid missing out on your favorite stalls, as many popular dishes sell out quickly by mid-morning. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or a traveler seeking authentic local flavors, Taman Melodies Hawker Centre is a must-visit for a heartfelt, traditional breakfast experience.
