BE AWARE OF THE PS5 SCAMS!

The SCAMMERS ARE COMING! THE SCAMMERS ARE COMING!

I just want to bring awareness! I do not want to seem insensitive, but please be careful of the PS5 scams! There are people claiming that their child passed away and they gifted their kid a PS5 and no longer want to look at it because it hurts. These people say it’s free, but then try to get you to pay them $50 shipping.

I seen someone make a similar post along the lines and turned their comments off, so I wanted to share! My friend almost got scammed believing this, so I don’t want it to happen to anyone in the group!

I first experienced in our work group chat, which was weird, because we had no one named that at our job. Then I experienced a second one, an a content creator facebook group.

NOW I AM GETTING RANDOM LEMON 8 dms, I just blocked them automatically because I already knew it was a scam!

... Read moreThe world of gaming, especially with highly sought-after consoles like the PlayStation 5, often attracts a dark side: scammers. While many of us dream of scoring a great deal, especially a 'free' PS5, it's crucial to stay vigilant. The original article highlighted a particularly cruel scam involving fake sob stories and demands for shipping fees. But sadly, that's just one tactic in a scammer's playbook. Let's dive deeper into other common PS5 and gaming scams you need to be aware of. Beyond the 'free console, just pay shipping' trick, watch out for fake websites mimicking legitimate retailers. These sites often offer unbelievably low prices or impossible stock, designed to steal your money or personal information. Always double-check the URL for subtle misspellings or unfamiliar domains before making any purchase. Using secure payment methods like credit cards, which offer buyer protection, is always a safer bet than wire transfers or gift cards, which are almost impossible to trace once sent. Another prevalent scam involves scalpers who promise to deliver a PS5 at an inflated price but never send the console after receiving payment. They often use social media or unofficial forums, making it hard to verify their legitimacy. Look for sellers with a strong, verifiable history and always use platforms that offer buyer protection. Some scammers even target gamers with fake account giveaways or phishing attempts, trying to steal your PlayStation Network credentials by sending convincing-looking emails or messages. Always be suspicious of links in unsolicited emails and never enter your login details on a site you haven't carefully verified. Then there are the more general 'gaming scams' that can affect any console owner. This includes fake game codes (like for Xbox Live Gold or PSN wallet top-ups) or fraudulent promises of rare in-game items. These often appear on social media or through direct messages. If an offer seems too good to be true, it almost certainly is. The images we've seen of fake PS5 giveaways, with overlay text like 'this is scary' and 'PEOPLE ARE SICK', truly capture the emotional manipulation involved. Scammers prey on excitement and desperation. Even 'work from home equipment scams,' like the 'primetech gear outlet' scam mentioned in some queries, can sometimes cross into the gaming community, potentially luring gamers with promises of paid game testing gigs that require an upfront 'kit' purchase. Always research companies thoroughly and never pay to get a job. So, what can you do to protect yourself? Firstly, verify everything. If someone is giving away a PS5, ask yourself why. Does their story add up? Check their profile for inconsistencies. Secondly, use official channels for purchases whenever possible. If you're buying used, meet in a public place and inspect the item carefully. Lastly, if you encounter a scam, report it to the platform it occurred on, block the user, and warn others. Sharing your experience, like I'm doing here, can help prevent others from becoming victims. Staying informed and cautious is our best defense against these ever-evolving gaming scams.

I just got one this morning saying something about upping orders at restaurants, $1k-$5k a week to $10k a month after training. Sent thru text message from WhatsApp….. I immediately deleted it and sent it to junk.
