My journey began with rigorous training, nothing like a "stewardess school" you might imagine from old films. It was intense, focusing heavily on safety protocols, first aid, and emergency procedures – far more than just how to greet passengers with a smile. When people ask for a description of a flight attendant's role, they often think of hospitality. While that's a big part, our primary job is safety. From checking emergency equipment before every flight to ensuring cabin security, we're constantly on alert. There's a lot of responsibility on our shoulders, making sure everyone on board is safe and comfortable. One moment you're helping a passenger find their seat, the next you might be calming a nervous flyer or assisting someone with a medical need. It's a dynamic role that requires quick thinking, empathy, and excellent problem-solving skills. My days often start before dawn, depending on the flight schedule. Pre-flight briefings are crucial, covering everything from flight details and weather to passenger needs and potential challenges. Then it's off to the aircraft for safety checks, ensuring everything is in place for a smooth journey. Once passengers board, it's a whirlwind of welcomes, helping with overhead bins, and making sure everyone is settled. During the flight, while we're serving meals – like my go-to Subway on a busy day – we're also monitoring the cabin, responding to call lights, and preparing for any unforeseen situations. The travel aspect is, of course, a huge draw. I love exploring new cities, even if it's just for a short layover. It's a perk that truly makes the demanding schedule worthwhile. However, it also means adapting to different time zones, managing fatigue, and being away from home. It's not always easy, but the sense of adventure and the people you meet along the way make it an incredibly rewarding career. It's truly a unique way to see the world and connect with people from all walks of life. Every flight brings new stories and new memories.
