Epoxy fun
Been watching some epoxy artists and wanted to give it a try. I put epoxy on all my cups but this is a whole different level!!! What do you think? 👇👇👇
I’ll post the finished product tomorrow after it cures.
You know how it is when you start a new craft – you just can't leave it alone, and you always gotta add more! That's exactly how I feel about my epoxy art journey. While I'm having a blast with my cups and small pieces, my mind has already started wandering to bigger, bolder projects... like creating amazing epoxy floor designs! Epoxy floors aren't just durable; they're a canvas for incredible artistic expression. Imagine turning a dull concrete slab into a shimmering metallic masterpiece or a swirling marbled wonder. The possibilities for unique, personalized spaces are endless! From garages to basements, and even living areas, epoxy can transform any floor into a focal point. If you're like me and thinking about diving into the world of epoxy floor design, here are some things I've been researching and learning from my smaller projects that I think would definitely apply: Preparation is Paramount: Just like with my cups, ensuring a perfectly clean and prepped surface is crucial for floors. Any dust, grease, or cracks will show through or compromise adhesion. Grinding the concrete is often recommended to create a profile for the epoxy to bond to. Choosing Your Style: There are so many options! You can go for solid colors, decorative flakes for a textured look, or metallic pigments that create stunning, multi-dimensional effects. The 'drip' technique I sometimes use on my cups could even inspire unique patterns on a smaller floor section, though you'd need to control it much more precisely on a large surface. Material Matters: Not all epoxy is created equal. For floors, you'll need specific formulations designed for durability and self-leveling properties. Researching different brands and types (like 100% solids epoxy versus water-based) is key to getting the right finish for your project. Application Techniques: While I use small brushes and spatulas for my art, floor epoxy often requires rollers, squeegees, and spiked shoes for even application and to release air bubbles. Getting an even spread is vital for a smooth, professional look. The Artistic Temptation: It’s so easy to get carried away. You just can't leave it alone, and you always gotta add more! With epoxy floors, it's about finding that balance between creativity and consistency. Overworking the material can lead to imperfections. Sometimes, the beauty is in the controlled chaos of the design. Curing Time is Sacred: Just as I wait for my cup projects to cure overnight, floor epoxy needs its time. Rushing the curing process or exposing it to moisture too soon can ruin the finish and its structural integrity. Patience is a virtue in epoxy art, big or small. While I'm still perfecting my small-scale epoxy art, dreaming of intricate epoxy floor designs keeps my creative juices flowing. Have any of you tackled an epoxy floor project? I'd love to hear your tips and see your creations! It’s all part of the fun of learning and growing in our epoxy journey.
