New Pokémon Starter For Every Gen - Gen 1
Oh my goodness, where do I even begin when it comes to the OG Pokémon starters? For so many of us, choosing between Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle was our very first big decision in the gaming world. It felt like picking a lifelong friend, didn't it? I still remember the thrill of booting up my Game Boy for the first time, ready to embark on an adventure in the Kanto region. These three aren't just pixels; they're emblems of childhood nostalgia and the foundation of what became a global phenomenon! First up, my green buddy, Bulbasaur! 🌱 Honestly, I think Bulbasaur often gets overshadowed by its fiery and watery counterparts, but it's such a fantastic choice, especially for beginners. Its Grass/Poison typing gives it a unique edge. I remember my first playthrough with Bulbasaur; it made the early gyms (Brock and Misty) so much easier! Evolving into Ivysaur and then the majestic Venusaur, it becomes a formidable force. Venusaur’s Petal Dance and Sleep Powder saved my team countless times. Plus, who can resist that little bulb on its back? It truly felt like nurturing a growing plant into a powerful ally. Then there's the fan-favorite, Charmander! 🔥 I mean, who didn't want a dragon-like Pokémon from the start? Charmander’s journey from a cute little lizard to the iconic Charizard is legendary. Its Fire typing is powerful, but boy, did Brock's Rock-type Pokémon give me a hard time with Charmander! You really had to strategize early on. But once it evolved into Charmeleon and then the magnificent Charizard, it felt unstoppable. Flying around on a Charizard, battling with Flamethrower – that’s peak Pokémon trainer life! It’s the ultimate symbol of perseverance, starting small and growing into something epic. And finally, my cool, calm, and collected pick: Squirtle! 💧 This little turtle is just too adorable with its cheeky grin. Squirtle, with its Water typing, offers a balanced start. It made short work of Brock’s team and was a solid choice against many opponents. Its evolution into Wartortle, with those fluffy ears, and then the mighty Blastoise, complete with cannons on its shell, is just incredible. I loved teaching my Blastoise Surf; it felt like I had my own personal speedboat! Blastoise always felt like a reliable anchor for my team, always ready to blast away any challenge with its powerful Hydro Pump. So, how do you pick? It’s not just about types; it’s about connection! Do you want an easy start (Bulbasaur), a challenging but rewarding journey (Charmander), or a balanced and reliable partner (Squirtle)? Each starter truly shapes your initial Kanto adventure. I've played through Gen 1 multiple times, picking a different starter each time, and each experience felt completely fresh because of that initial choice. It influences the Pokémon you catch, the strategies you use, and even the storyline nuances. These Gen 1 starters aren't just old Pokémon; they're foundational. They taught us about type advantages, the joy of evolution, and the bond between trainer and Pokémon. Even now, decades later, seeing Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle brings a warmth to my heart. They really are the definition of 'starters' – they started it all for so many of us, creating memories that last a lifetime. Which one holds the most special place in your heart?
