RAW vs edit

From my experience as both an artist and photographer, the RAW format is like having an uncut diamond. It holds all the original scene data captured by the camera sensor, which gives you immense flexibility to adjust exposure, white balance, contrast, and saturation during post-processing. Many clients often overlook the possibilities of a RAW photo because the initial unedited shot might appear dull or flat. However, editing reveals the true colors, sharpness, and mood intended by the photographer. When I shoot in RAW with my Canon camera, I know I have a digital negative that can be molded into a variety of artistic expressions depending on the project. Editing RAW files also allows for correcting imperfections like noise reduction, lens distortion, and dynamic range improvements that are impossible with JPEGs. As someone who values creative control, being able to choose which elements to enhance or tone down is incredibly satisfying. If you're starting in photography, I highly recommend experimenting with RAW shooting and getting familiar with editing software such as Adobe Lightroom or Capture One. This combination empowers you to make the best of your images and often surprises clients when they see the final product compared to the untouched original. Ultimately, embracing RAW and editing unleashes the full potential hidden in every shot.
