New R&B Music ~ May Favorites!☀️

I LOVE R&B and it’s part of my routine to always check out the “RNB Only” page on IG on Fridays to check out some new (and) old artists who dropped music that week or day. Even though NOTHING will top ‘90s R&B era 🥺 I will spend all my days trying to find artists and songs that fit that time period esthetic.

May goes to the Men, the held it DOWN this month for sure 💯 These 4 songs were my favorite R&B songs from last month that I discovered!

Artist: Elmiene ft. Leon Thomas

Song Title: Sweetness

Vibe: Smooth, Late Night Drive, Slow

⭐️ I love this song, it was very well composed! It’s a perfect song to listen to while settling in for the night after a long day, taking a late night drive or a song to listen to help set the mood with your significant other.

Artist: Vedo

Song: Your Love is All I Need🎶

Vibe: Smooth R&B, a Bop, Classic Throwback

⭐️ I listened to this whole album and my expectations were way lower than they should have been - because this song right here 🔥 ?! Perfect for the summer!

It’s the perfect blend of a new song with undertones of something that sounds familiar (you know those songs you hear for the first time but it sounds like you know it already?)

🎵 He has another song called Tap Out from this project which is really good too!

💡 Both songs are perfect for a grown and sexy type of playlist

Artist: 4Batz

Song: There Goes Another Vase

Vibe: Smooth R&B, Sad Boy, Old School-ish

⭐️ This is his first project to my knowledge and it’s very good. I love that he doesn’t look like a R&B artist because his album cover is giving more Rap/ Hip-Hop. Given this I was thoroughly surprised to have enjoyed the album, since the sound I heard wasn’t what I was expecting.

His project is a little extra special to me because boyfriend, who tends to lean more towards rap/hip hop on most days, enjoys it too.

‼️ FACT: His project dropped on the day K. Dot hit Drake with a two piece after Drake dropped a song. 4Batz is semi signed to Drake, so why he would drop the same day his artist debuted his album is beyond me 🤷🏾‍♀️

Artist: Tommy Richman

Song: Million Dollar Baby 💰

Vibe: Funky, R&B, “Alt-Rock”

⭐️ Though many people already know this song as it’s SUPER TRENDY right now and, like 4batz, came out during the heat of the Drake and Kendrick beef it’s definitely worth highlighting. The fact that both of them were able to have songs thrive during the time when even mainstream artists didn’t even want to drop says a lot about their potential.

Plus he is from the DM(V) like myself so he gets extra points there. I heard snippets of a new song that sounds equally as funky and I am looking forward to hearing it!

... Read moreSince we're talking about May's R&B gems, I absolutely have to dive a bit deeper into Elmiene ft. Leon Thomas's 'Sweetness.' For those who might not know, Leon Thomas III has actually been making waves for a while, transitioning from acting to becoming a true R&B force. His voice has this incredibly smooth, almost velvety quality that just pulls you in. 'Sweetness' is a perfect example – that late-night drive vibe, the kind of song that makes you want to cruise with the windows down, just like the mood that album art conjures up with someone walking in a robe at night. It’s that blend of classic R&B sensibility with a fresh, modern touch that makes it so captivating. If you loved 'Sweetness,' you should definitely explore Leon Thomas's other projects; he consistently delivers that soulful, intentional sound. Speaking of discovering new tracks, finding music that creates those 'saxy vibes' for your own personal lineup is a journey I'm always on! Forget waiting for a festival; you can curate your own perfect R&B experience right from your phone. My go-to method involves exploring artists similar to those I already love, like the ones I mentioned from May. For instance, if Vedo's 'Your Love is All I Need' gave you that classic throwback feel, try diving into playlists dedicated to '90s R&B or artists who cite that era as a major influence. Apps like Spotify or Apple Music’s 'Radio' feature based on a song or artist are goldmines. Sometimes I just follow R&B tastemakers on social media who consistently drop new recommendations, just like I do with 'RNB Only' on IG. It's all about building your own personal festival of sounds! The R&B scene today is so diverse and exciting, constantly evolving, which is why I'm always on the hunt. Artists like 4Batz and Tommy Richman are perfect examples of how the genre is stretching its boundaries. 4Batz, with his unexpected blend, shows that R&B isn't always what you expect from the cover art. And Tommy Richman's 'Million Dollar Baby' proves that R&B can have that funky, alt-rock edge while still being undeniably soulful. If you're into artists who push the envelope or enjoy the more contemporary, atmospheric sounds of someone like PartyNextDoor, you'll find a lot to love in these new artists. Look for subgenres like 'Alt-R&B' or 'PBR&B' for similar experimental vibes. Sometimes, expanding your listening to artists who collaborate with your favorites can also lead to amazing discoveries. The beauty of R&B is its versatility – it can be smooth, sad, funky, or a straight-up bop, and there's always something new to soothe your soul or get you moving. So, whether you're crafting a chill late-night playlist, searching for those summer bops, or just curious about who's shaping the future of R&B, these May picks are a fantastic starting point. Keep exploring, keep listening, and let your ears guide you to your next favorite track!
