❓How I Found It: I was looking for a movie to watch and I decide to look up some most recent best picture award nominees and this one popped up! (It lost to Oppenheimer last year)
🤷🏾♀️ Why Was I Interested: Not really sure because it came off as a romance movie, and I am a big fan of those. BUT, I do have an forever longing to go back to Seoul and saw that South Korea was mentioned so that it was probably drew me in
❤️Why Do I LOVE It?: I was equally disappointed yet happy at the same time and even cried because of this fact at the end lol! ALSO, because the story was so well told and NOT TOXIC. I feel like with romance/dramas something catastrophic always happens.. but this one just felt SO REAL and “dramatized” in the perfect way
.. it wasn’t too much and it wasn’t too little..
but I think I could also relate to this on a “What Could Have” happened POV. My bf and I (like the 2 protagonists) have constantly been in and out of each others life since we were young. And it was insightful and emotional to see how this story unfolded for someone else on an outside looking in perspective.
⭐️ I really like this directors style (Celine Song) and I am looking forward to watching more of her work.
The movie in “The Materialists is coming out in the Summer and I can’t wait!! The story telling style should be similar AND it’s going to be produced by A24 — whose movies I really enjoy watching as well.
