2nd To Last Book of 2025 FINALLY Completed!

I was doing soo well reading books this year… I think lol.. and fell into a LONG slump. I have been trying to get through this rather short read since roughly July 🥲

OVERALL: It was rather dense context wise but also easy to understand? Just not the most fun read.

Book name: The Pilgrim’s Progress

Author: John Bunyan (Revision by Alan Vermilye)

Genre: Fiction & Religious Allegory

About: It tells the story of a character named Christian on his journey to the Celestial City, with symbolic characters and events representing moral and spiritual concepts.

My rating: 3.5/5

My review: It was a great read after reading through the Bible once, so I highly recommended this book if you have read the Bible!!

I like how this book has references to the scriptures the part of the book is actually referring to. When I read it again… one day lol.. I plan to check them all out while reading the main text.

... Read moreThe Pilgrim’s Progress remains one of the most enduring and influential works in Christian literature, second only in translation count to the Bible itself. John Bunyan’s allegorical tale portrays the spiritual journey of a character named Christian as he navigates trials and tribulations on his path to the Celestial City, which symbolizes heaven. This modern-day revision by Alan Vermilye makes the narrative more accessible while preserving the original’s profound symbolism. Many readers find that understanding the biblical references enhances the reading experience, as the story integrates scripture-based lessons that reflect Christian theology and morality. For those who have read the Bible, this parallel can deepen appreciation for Bunyan’s use of allegory to communicate themes of salvation, faith, and perseverance. While the book’s content can be dense due to its rich symbolism, the straightforward language of this edition allows for better comprehension, making it suitable for both devoted readers of religious texts and newcomers interested in Christian allegory. In addition to the text itself, The Pilgrim’s Progress has inspired various adaptations, including animated films like the 2020 English audio version available on YouTube, which brings the story to life for new generations using visual storytelling. This accessibility in multiple formats contributes to the book’s ongoing popularity and relevance. Readers who engage with this book often share that its references to scripture prompt further study, creating an interactive experience where the allegory and the Bible complement one another. This makes The Pilgrim’s Progress not just a story but a devotional journey that encourages reflection on one’s spiritual life and commitments. It’s a valuable read for anyone interested in exploring Christian faith through literature, especially those who appreciate symbolic narratives that challenge and inspire. For those interested in book recommendations with a spiritual or religious focus, The Pilgrim’s Progress offers a classic yet accessible choice, deeply rooted in Christian tradition and widely regarded as a motivational roadmap for personal and spiritual growth.
