I think I can speak for us all when I say - I LOVE a Good Christmas Movie!!
But I noticed that over the years some have gotten a bit… stale. I don’t look forward to watching them as much as I used to.
I have seen the story too many times, a new and shinier movie takes its place.. sometimes they are hard too find, the list goes on.
These are some of my FAVORITES throughout the years, but one seems to have fallen off my list.
MY ANSWER: ELF
In high and middle school this was one of the movies the teachers always played. Then I would watch it on my own at home. Then this used to by best friends favorite movie and she used to quote ALL the lines.
NOW, it’s just too much to watch lol - I reached my threshold.
... Read moreIt's true, sometimes even our most beloved holiday traditions need a little re-evaluation. While I might be ready to retire 'Elf' for a bit, my heart still holds strong for many other classic Christmas movies that never fail to bring me joy and festive cheer. Let's dive into why some of these 'old kids Christmas movies' remain absolute must-watches in my home, year after year!
First up, 'The Polar Express'. Despite some initial skepticism, this film has truly grown on me, becoming an irreplaceable part of my holiday lineup. The animation is unique, yes, but the story's heart, with Tom Hanks lending his voice to several characters, is undeniable. And let's be real, that 'Hot Chocolate' scene? Absolute perfection! It captures the pure magic and wonder of childhood belief in a way few other films manage. It reminds us all to BELIEVE, just like the conductor says. It’s a beautifully crafted journey that really taps into the spirit of imagination.
Then there’s the chaotic charm of 'Home Alone 2: Lost in New York'. While the original 'Home Alone' is arguably the quintessential classic, the sequel holds a special place for me, particularly because it takes Kevin's antics to the heart of NYC! There’s something so thrilling about seeing him navigate the big city during Christmas. The traps are bigger, the stakes feel higher, and the festive atmosphere of New York City during the holidays is just breathtaking. It's a fantastic example of an 'old kids Christmas movie' that still delivers laugh-out-loud moments and a heartwarming message about family, even when you're literally 'lost in New York'. It's pure nostalgic gold that many of us grew up with.
And who could forget 'The Santa Clause 2'? This series, especially the second installment, truly stands out for focusing on how Christmas spirit isn't just for kids, but needs to be renewed for adults too. It explores themes of responsibility, love, and keeping the magic alive even when faced with grown-up challenges. It’s a delightful blend of humor and heart, offering a fresh perspective on what it means to be Santa and the importance of belief, no matter your age. It's a wonderful example of a sequel that successfully expands on its original premise.
When thinking about 'old kids Christmas movies', what truly makes them endure? For me, it's the combination of innocence, memorable characters, and a timeless message. Films like these often teach us about kindness, generosity, and the power of family, all wrapped up in a cozy, festive package. They transport us back to simpler times and allow us to share that same warmth with new generations.
Finding new 'peliculas' (movies) to add to the rotation is always fun, but there's an undeniable comfort in revisiting these classics. Sometimes, it’s about the tradition as much as the movie itself. If you're looking to watch some of these incredible films, many streaming services now offer a wide selection, often rotating through their free content during the holiday season. Keep an eye out for platforms that might offer classics like 'Home Alone' or 'The Polar Express' as part of their free trials or ad-supported tiers. It's a great way to enjoy these beloved holiday stories without breaking the bank. What are some of your non-negotiable classic holiday films?
