🌟5 out of 5: Pistachio Matcha had a neutral taste because pistachio’s sweetness blends well with matcha’s bitter taste. The drink also had a little bit of nuts, so I suggest getting an alternative drink for anyone who has a nut/peanut allergy. I had it with whole milk, but they do have alternative milk options like oat milk for anyone who prefers a different milk option or has lactose intolerance.
This is also a good place for anyone who needs a
place to study and/or work, since they have outlets and wifi is provided. They do have limited seating, depending on the day and time. There is street parking and a small parking lot in the back of the store if traveling by car.
... Read moreYou know how sometimes you try a drink and it just *clicks*? That's exactly how I felt about the Pistachio Matcha I reviewed! But after sharing my thoughts, I realized a lot of you might be wondering, 'Wait, are pistachio and matcha even the same thing?' or 'Does matcha taste like pistachio?' Let's clear up some common confusion because, trust me, they're wonderfully different but fantastic together!
First off, no, matcha and pistachio are definitely not the same, and one isn't made from the other. Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown and processed green tea leaves. It's known for its vibrant green color and a unique, earthy, slightly bitter, and sometimes umami flavor. It's truly a tea with a rich history, often associated with a calming, focused energy.
Pistachio, on the other hand, comes from the pistachio nut. When we talk about "pistachio drinks," it usually refers to a drink flavored with pistachio syrup, paste, or even actual crushed pistachios. The flavor is distinctively nutty, often sweet, and can have a creamy texture, especially when combined with milk. So, while matcha is a tea, pistachio is a nut that lends its unique taste to various culinary creations, including beverages.
So, why combine them? It's all about balance and creating a new flavor profile! As I mentioned in my review, the inherent sweetness of pistachio beautifully complements and often mellows out the sometimes intense bitterness of matcha. It’s a classic pairing of sweet and earthy, creating a much more neutral, yet still complex, taste. When I saw my drink, it was a beautiful layered pistachio matcha drink with green and white layers, making it almost too pretty to drink! The whipped cream and crushed pistachios on top didn't just add to the aesthetic but also gave it an extra creamy texture and a delightful crunch.
If you're someone who finds plain matcha a bit too strong or earthy, a pistachio matcha might just be your gateway drink. It offers a softer introduction to matcha's unique qualities while indulging in the comforting, sweet notes of pistachio. It's also a great way to try something new if you're a fan of either ingredient already.
Always remember to check for nut allergens if you have sensitivities, as many pistachio drinks feature actual nuts or extracts. And don't be afraid to experiment with different milk options – I loved mine with whole milk, but I bet it's equally delicious with oat milk for a dairy-free twist. Next time you're at a cafe, especially one that prides itself on unique beverages, keep an eye out for this delightful combination. It's a taste adventure worth taking!
