Meet Bunny - Our Newest Family Member
Bunny is a kitten we recently adopted from a wonderful lady who rescues cats and kittens in the local area around Yokota Air Base, Japan in Fussa - Tokyo. Bunny is a special rescue case, because she’s partially blind, and was the smallest of her litter. The lady who rescued her, and the animal shelter didn’t expect her to get adopted because there are so many kittens and cats in their shelter right now, that are waiting to be adopted- and all their fosters are full or unavailable. I didn’t know any of this when I saw Bunny’s face on the social media post. I saw that she was partially blind, but that wasn’t/isn’t an issue for me or my family. So I contacted the lady about Bunny. We met our little angel last week, and took her home that day.
We’ve had to make some adjustments for her, but we don’t mind.
We named her bunny, because she hops and bounces everywhere she goes. Rather than walking or running, she hops, bounces, and jumps. Especially with her two front paws 🐾 out.

Adopting a rescue kitten like Bunny brings many rewarding challenges and joyful moments. Caring for a partially blind kitten requires thoughtful adaptations to ensure their safety and comfort. For example, keeping furniture arrangements consistent and providing tactile markers can help a blind or visually impaired kitten navigate their environment confidently. Moreover, these beloved animals often develop heightened senses like hearing and smell, which further enrich their interaction with their new homes and families. Many animal shelters near Yokota Air Base in Fussa, Tokyo, face overcrowding, making foster care and adoption crucial for kittens like Bunny. Supports from local communities and adoption advocates play a vital role in giving these kittens a second chance. Naming Bunny for her unique hopping and bouncing gait highlights how rescue animals often have distinct personalities and physical traits that make them especially endearing. Observing and understanding these traits enhances the bond between pet and owner. Sharing stories of special needs pets encourages awareness and empathy, helping more people consider adopting animals who may require extra care but offer abundant love and companionship in return. Rescue and foster groups provide valuable resources and guidance for families stepping into this fulfilling journey. If you are thinking about adopting a rescue kitten, remember that patience, consistent care, and love can help them thrive regardless of disabilities. Like Bunny, many foster kittens await loving homes where they can blossom into cherished family members.
