Day 2 - sourdough starter from scratch✨
Trying again! Is this normal for day 2? Let me know what you think! #starter #sourdoughstarter #sourdoughbread #sourdough #sourdoughbeginner
On Day 2 of making a sourdough starter, it's common for beginners to feel uncertain about their progress. During this stage, your starter should begin showing signs of life, such as bubbles forming and a slight increase in volume. It's important to feed your starter regularly, usually every 12 to 24 hours, using equal parts of flour and water, which helps to nurture the yeast and bacteria. If you notice that your mixture is not bubbling as much as you hoped, don't worry! Factors like temperature, humidity, and the type of flour used can affect fermentation. Maintaining a consistent temperature around 75°F to 85°F (24°C to 29°C) is ideal for yeast activity. You may also want to experiment with different flours, such as whole wheat or rye, which can provide more nutrients for your starter. Engaging with the community can provide reassurance and support—sharing tips and experiences can make a big difference. Remember, the goal is to create an environment where wild yeast can thrive, allowing you to bake delicious sourdough bread. Trust the process, and don't hesitate to document your progress and seek advice!
Yes, but it's probably not"strong" enough yet to use to bake with. Keep going! By end of week one should be good to bake with. Start saving discard after end of week to make chocolate chip cookies & pizza dough among a lot of other great food!
