K9 Cali
A little more than a year ago, K9 Cali left the East Valley Animal shelter in LA to be trained by K9 Protectors in narcotics detection.
She was paired with Officer Shirley Dong of the Edison Police Department

"K9 Cali officially hit the road on June 13, 2024, working a 4-on/4-off schedule from 3:40 PM to 1:00 AM. Over this time, she has been called upon for narcotics K9 sniffs a total of 12 times, assisting with everything from motor vehicle stops to search warrants. Cali is enthusiastic and exceptionally skilled at her job.
We’ve also learned that if K9 Cali does not show interest in a particular vehicle or dwelling, it’s almost certain that narcotics are not present. She has proven herself to be incredibly accurate during numerous incidents, earning the trust of everyone who works with her.
Cali is not only loved and appreciated by me but also by my squad mates and supervisors across multiple shifts. Much like me, she’s eager to work and always ready for the next challenge. Having a narcotics dog like Cali on a patrol squad ensures that motor vehicle stops are efficient and never unnecessarily prolonged.
Cali always has my back. Whether I’m conducting a motor vehicle stop or writing a report, she’s constantly alert and scanning her surroundings. If an unfamiliar person approaches my vehicle, she immediately barks to warn me. She’s also incredibly intuitive. After a particularly stressful call, she seems to sense my mood, often licking any cuts or scrapes I might have as if she’s comforting me.
K9 Cali is truly a blessing—my shadow, my protector, and the best partner and “dogter” I could ever ask for.
I cannot thank Chief Tom Bryan and Mayor Joshi enough for selecting me as a K9 handler and pairing me with Cali. K9 Cali proudly serves alongside K9 Apollo and K9 Caj, who specialize in explosives and tracking, and K9 Mack, another skilled narcotics dog."
