Homemade Sandwich Bread 🍞

This year I received my very first KitchenAid standing mixer. When I tell you, I was THRILLED because I wanted one of these for so long, isn’t understatement.

For the longest time I’ve wanted to make homemade bread. I’ve watched hours of videos on people making their own bread.

Here is the one that stuck out to me the most. It’s super easy to make!

Start with 1 1/2 cups of warm milk, 1 tbsp of sugar and 1 active yeast packet. Mix together. Let rise for about 10 minutes or until frothy. Add 3 cups of all purpose flour and 1 tsp of salt. Use dough hook and kneed for 4 minutes on level 2. Add 2 tbsp of melted butter and kneed again for 6 minutes on level 2. TIP: if dough is sticking, gradually add more flour until dough is not sticking to the bowl. Turn off the mixer after dough is formed and not sticking. Remove the dough. Grease bowl and place dough inside. Cover with a damp towel for an hour. Once the dough has doubled in sized, punch the dough to let out the air. Remove the dough and kneed the dough by rolling it into a loaf. TIP: I watched a video of kneed the dough in the air to create a loaf and it actually worked out great! Place dough in bread pan and cover for 30 min. Preheat the oven to 350. Once dough has rises for 30 minutes and oven is ready, place pan in the oven and baked for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes have passed, turn the oven heat up to 400. Leave pan in the oven during this for another 15 minutes. Once time is up, remove from oven and place bread on a rack and let cool.

Ta - da, you just made bread! 🍞

This recipe ensures soft and airy bread ideal for various sandwich fillings. Start by mixing warm milk, sugar, and yeast to activate the yeast. After resting but before mixing, you can also add flavors or herbs to enhance your bread. Flour and salt are essential for structure, while melted butter adds richness. Kneading the dough helps develop gluten, which is crucial for the bread's texture. Always allow the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place and remember to punch it down for optimal results. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different flours like whole wheat or rye for unique flavors. You can also try adding seeds or grains for extra nutrition. The second rise is equally important; it allows the bread to expand fully before baking. After scoring the loaf and baking, let it cool completely on a rack to maintain the texture. Baking bread from scratch not only enhances your culinary skills but also fills your home with a delightful aroma. Enjoy your homemade bread fresh or use it for toast and sandwiches!
