DIY Vertical Herb Garden

Make a space saving herb garden with me!

My local garden center gives pallets away for free, all you have to do is go and ask them for one. You can also call local businesses and ask for a pallet, and a lot of times they'll give you one.

I started by taking most of the boards off and playing around with the layout until I got it the way I wanted. Then I reattached them using the same nails the pallet came with.

Next I sanded the wood down to smooth it all out and then spray painted it. It took about 2 cans of spray paint to do the whole thing.

I used garden fabric and a staple gun to line the shelves and make a place for the plants.

Finally it's time to do the fun part and fill it up with plants!

Start by sourcing your pallets—many local garden centers are willing to give them away for free, making this an affordable gardening option. Once you have your pallets, you can customize the layout according to your space preferences. Preparation is key: disassemble the pallet boards and reattach them as needed. Sanding the wood ensures a smooth finish, which is essential when painting and handling the structure. Upcycling materials such as leftover spray paint gives a personalized touch while being budget-conscious. Adding garden fabric to the shelves is an excellent step to retain soil while allowing for drainage, ensuring your herbs have a healthy growing environment. Engaging in decorative touches, like hand-painted flowers, can also make your garden unique and visually appealing! Once your vertical garden is all set up, it’s time for the enjoyable part—planting your favorite herbs! From basil to mint, having fresh herbs right at your fingertips elevates your cooking and adds a fragrant touch to your space. Enjoy nurturing your new plants, and watch them thrive in this creative, vertical setup. Happy gardening!
