Books read in October

2024/12/9 Edited to

... Read moreOctober always brings a special kind of magic, doesn't it? As the leaves turn and the air gets crisp, there's nothing I love more than curling up with a really good book. This past month, my reading list was full of unforgettable stories that I genuinely think you'll adore if you're hunting for your next autumn escape. I've been getting so many questions about my recent reads, so I wanted to share a deeper dive into why these books made my October so memorable. First up, 'Butcher and Blackbird' by Brynne Weaver. If you're someone who enjoys a truly unique and dark romance, this one is for you. I was hooked by its dual POV, following both the FMC and MMC, who are not your typical lovers – they're serial killers with a fascinating friends-to-lovers trope. It’s certainly not for the faint of heart, so I strongly recommend reading the trigger warning beforehand, but if you're brave enough, it delivers a thrilling, edgy read perfect for the spooky season. The unexpected twists and morally grey characters made it an absolute page-turner for me. Then there's 'The Nightingale' by Kristin Hannah. This historical fiction novel set during WW2, following two French sisters, completely captivated my heart. Hannah's storytelling is so powerful and emotional; I truly shed tears while reading it. It beautifully showcases their contrasting paths and choices amidst the horrors of war. If you're looking for a book that will make you feel deeply, appreciate resilience, and immerse you in a pivotal moment in history, 'The Nightingale' is an absolute must-read. It's a poignant choice for a more reflective October evening. For those who love a good mystery with a psychological edge, 'The Silent Patient' by Alex Michaelides was a brilliant choice. This psychological thriller revolves around a famous painter who murders her husband and then remains completely mute. Her psychotherapist, the main character, tries to unravel why. I found myself completely engrossed, trying to piece together the clues alongside the therapist. It’s a masterclass in suspense, and the ending truly left me speechless. It’s the kind of book that’s perfect for those darker, cozier nights when you want to be completely absorbed in a story. And finally, 'Verity' by Colleen Hoover. Oh my goodness, this psychological thriller is wonderfully unsettling and creepy! I was told by so many people that this one would keep me guessing, and they were absolutely right. It follows a struggling writer hired to finish a bestselling author's series after she suffers a serious injury. What she uncovers is simply disturbing. Hoover really knows how to keep you entertained and guessing what’s going to happen next. If you're a fan of thrillers where all the characters are somewhat unlikeable, adding to the tension, and the plot twists keep coming, 'Verity' is an unforgettable experience. It’s definitely one of those books that stays with you long after you've finished the last page. I hope these recommendations help you find your next great read for October or any autumn month! Each of these books offered something unique, whether it was a dark and thrilling romance, a deeply moving historical account, or a mind-bending psychological ride. Happy reading, everyone!
