It was just me and my little girl…

painting pumpkins, laughing, and listening to her Doc McStuffins Tonie box on repeat.

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝒎𝒚 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈.

I wasn’t thinking about deadlines.

I wasn’t worrying about my to-do list or what tomorrow’s meeting would bring.

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞. 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭. Soaking in her giggles and taking in every moment.

And it hit me.

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 is what I used to crave when I was stuck in the grind…

𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

Not half-present, not checking my phone, not feeling torn between work and motherhood.

𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞.

Because one day, she won’t ask me to paint pumpkins with her anymore.

And I 𝒓𝒆𝒇𝒖𝒔𝒆 to look back and realize I missed these moments

not because I wasn’t there,

but because my mind was somewhere else.
