𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐠𝐨 𝐚𝐬 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡.

With Camilla, I had a C-section because she was breech.

With Cayleigh, I was determined to have a VBAC.

𝐴𝑛𝑑 𝐼 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑗𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑒𝑦 𝑡𝑜 𝑔𝑒𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝐼 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑．

At 7cm dilated, I asked for an epidural and it only worked on one side. They had to take it out and redo it. I remember thinking that would be the hardest part.

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠.

Everything was going smoothly, until it wasn’t.

Suddenly, the room filled with nurses. Another doctor was called in. And in that moment, all I can think was 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐲 𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐲?

After 20 minutes of pushing, Cayleigh didn’t come out crying like I had imagined. They didn’t place her on my chest.

They rushed her across the room and started working on her.

She didn’t breathe for the first 15–20 minutes of her life.

𝑁𝑜 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑚𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡．

But I 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑙𝑦 believe her uncle Jeremy was with her every step of the way 🤍

Because just 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫, she was able to have the breathing tube removed. She spent 2 days in the NICU.

And this video right here, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐈 𝐠𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐲.

Not how I pictured it. But it’s our story. 🫶🏼

But today she is doing so amazing! She fought her way into this world and 𝐈 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐦𝐚.
