There’s not a day…

that goes by that I don’t think about what life would be like if my brother was still here.

Now that I have little ones of my own, missing you hurts in a whole new way. You would have been the most incredible uncle to Camilla and Cayleigh.

I talk about you often so they’ll grow up knowing what an amazing person you were.

Fifteen years ago today, I had no idea our lives were about to change forever. It started like any other Sunday. We were at church, and when we got home, I answered a knock at the door and standing there were two police officers.

In that moment, our world changed forever.

My heart is still broken, and I know a piece of it always will be. But I promise I’ll never stop talking about you, remembering you, and sharing with my girls what an incredible brother you were.

I love you more than words could ever say. ❤️

Over the years, I’ve found that openly sharing memories and stories about my brother with my children not only helps keep his spirit alive but also teaches them valuable lessons about love, resilience, and family bonds. It’s important to create a space where the next generation can learn about their heritage and understand the impact someone had, even if they never met them. When I speak about my brother, I try to highlight the qualities that made him special – his kindness, sense of humor, and the way he cared for those around him. These memories become a source of comfort and inspiration, helping us navigate our own challenges. I have also noticed how involving my children in activities that honor his memory, like lighting a candle on anniversaries or looking through old photographs, helps them feel connected despite his absence. The pain of losing him still feels fresh at times, and anniversaries can be especially tough. But through these moments, I’ve learned the importance of allowing ourselves to feel grief without judgment while also moving forward with hope. I encourage others who have experienced similar losses to find their own meaningful rituals and keep the conversation alive. Remembering those we love is a powerful way to keep their legacy alive and to teach our children about the enduring power of family and love.
