These past couple of days…

have been so incredibly difficult. 💔

First, I want to 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 who has reached out, checked in, and prayed for our family during this time. It truly means more than you know.

Even though my grandma lived 99 beautiful years, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 when it’s someone you love so much.

Every single time I went back home to visit, going to Grandma’s house was something I 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐨. Knowing those visits won’t be part of my trips home anymore is going to be one of the hardest adjustments.

And watching Camilla go through this has been 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠. She had such a difficult time at Grandma’s funeral. When she saw a picture of Grandma at the luncheon, she said, “I won’t see her anymore” 😢

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭. Grandma was such a special part of our lives, and knowing how much my girls loved her makes saying goodbye that much harder.

These past few days have also reminded me of something I’m incredibly grateful for.

The 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 and 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 I’ve been able to create through my business.

When 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝, I didn’t have to worry about requesting time off, rearranging a work schedule, or asking permission to be with my family.

I was able to put everything else aside and simply 𝐁𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄.

To spend these past few days completely present with my family, remembering Grandma, sharing stories, laughing, crying, and celebrating her beautiful life.

Because at the end of the day, 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 is what freedom means to me.

It’s not just about making money.

It’s about having the ability to 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 for the moments that matter most, especially the ones you never wish you had to experience.

And that is something I will never, ever take for granted. ❤️

... Read moreLosing a loved one is one of the most challenging experiences we face, and it often reminds us of what truly matters in life. Having a grandmother who lived 99 years is a profound blessing, but as the article beautifully expresses, no amount of time feels enough when it comes to those we deeply love. One key takeaway from this personal story is the priceless nature of flexibility that a self-created business can provide during such difficult times. From my own experience, I’ve found that having control over my schedule during family crises allows me to support loved ones without the added stress of juggling rigid work commitments. The ability to simply "be there"—to share stories, cry, laugh, and celebrate life—is something that traditional jobs don’t always permit. This freedom isn’t just about income but about prioritizing relationships and well-being during moments that shape us. Moreover, grief affects each family member differently, including children like Camilla who may struggle to understand the permanence of loss. Having time to support and reassure younger family members is an essential part of the healing process that’s often overlooked. Incorporating flexibility into your professional life can help you navigate these emotional landscapes with more presence and compassion. The beautiful phrase from the image, “99 years between these two beautiful lives,” captures how legacy and love span generations. It inspires us to cherish every interaction and memory we share with elders. While we cannot control life’s timing, we can control how we respond and honor those moments. For those considering entrepreneurship or flexible work arrangements, stories like this underscore the profound impact such choices have beyond financial reasons. They provide a meaningful way to create balance, empowering us to show up fully for our families during both joyful and heartbreaking times. Ultimately, freedom means being available for the moments we never wish to face but must, ensuring we don’t miss the chance to make lasting memories with those we love.
