Study in Romans 1:16-17

2025/5/14 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first started diving into serious Bible study, Romans 1:16-17 truly resonated with me. It's a cornerstone verse, especially for anyone, like me, who sometimes grapples with sharing their faith or feeling a bit shy about their beliefs. My own handwritten notes, often scrawled in a spiral notebook with colorful markers and a scattering of pens, always come back to this passage. Let’s break it down: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: 'The righteous will live by faith.'" The phrase "I am not ashamed of the gospel" was a huge turning point for me. I used to worry about what people would think if I openly talked about God or my faith journey. There's a subtle pressure, sometimes, to keep spiritual things private. But this verse, for me, clarified that the gospel isn’t something to hide or feel embarrassed about; it’s the very "power of God that brings salvation." It makes you realize that what we have in Christ is the most incredible, life-changing truth, not a secret to guard. It shifts your perspective from fearing judgment to understanding the immense value and hope found in God's salvation plan. Overcoming embarrassment about faith isn't an overnight process. It's a gradual journey of confidence building, rooted in understanding what you believe and why. For me, it involved a lot of personal reflection, reading, and honestly, a lot of prayer for boldness. I remember one of my notebook pages highlighted a specific prayer asking for courage to speak up, even when my heart was racing. It’s about recognizing that the message isn't about *me*, but about the transformative power of God's love. Applying faith to spread the gospel doesn't always mean standing on a street corner preaching. Sometimes, it's simply living out your faith authentically. It’s about showing kindness, offering a listening ear, or sharing a personal testimony when the opportunity arises. It's about being a light in your everyday interactions, letting your actions speak volumes, and then being prepared to explain the hope you have within you. I’ve found that often, people are more open to hearing about faith when they see it genuinely lived out in someone else’s life. For anyone just starting a beginner Bible study, Romans 1:16-17 is a fantastic place to begin. Don't feel overwhelmed by trying to understand everything at once. Grab your own spiral notebook and some colorful pens. Take notes, highlight phrases that speak to you, and pray for understanding. Ask yourself: What does "God's salvation plan" mean for *me*? How can I live "unashamed" of this truth today? And how can I cultivate a "prayer for boldness" that empowers me to share this good news? It's a journey of discovery that continually strengthens your walk with God.
