Deep work. 💪
When preparing for the SAT, achieving deep focus and structured study can make all the difference. In my own experience, breaking a score plateau required not just more studying, but smarter studying. One key strategy is to modify only one study variable at a time—whether it's your study schedule, resources, or methods—to clearly identify what impacts your performance positively. Additionally, during practice, it’s crucial to prioritize accuracy before speed. I did most practice questions untimed at first until I consistently reached 80% accuracy, which helped me build a strong foundation. Once accuracy was robust, adding timed conditions helped to improve pacing without sacrificing precision. Utilizing smart tools like Lumist.ai to filter practice questions by difficulty—from easy to hard—helped me maintain motivation and systematically build my skills rather than feeling overwhelmed by random, challenging questions. I also implemented a 'reset week' every four weeks solely devoted to reviewing mistakes and consolidating knowledge instead of learning new content. This rhythm of focused review prevents burnout and ensures that I fully understood previous material before moving forward. Consistently applying these deep work principles allowed me to elevate my SAT score, especially in reading and writing, while hitting top percentiles nationally. For anyone aiming to improve their test results, incorporating these approaches can turn scattered studying into productive, high-impact learning sessions.
